I have to say the new Soulfy album has surprised me. I went in thinking it was gonna be a rehash of things said and done before, just probably lower and more groove layed out. But to my surprise there's some speed, dynamics and good riffage. Also Marc Rizzo has done a 180 to me. I didn't know he was so damn good, let alone he had a solo album out on Shrapnel Records (why didn't he do this stuff in Ill Nino?) Anywho, just thought I'd give my Buck O' Five.

I've been mixing a few bits of Soulfly live recently and I have to say Rizzo was really tight on it, saved the day actually. Anyone else think he looks like Phil Demmel on the way to school with that rucksack haha.

Since we're on the topic of new music, I purchased the new Fear Factory album yesterday. I hadn't heard any of the new material save for "Transgression" when they played it live at Gigantour.......wow....um, I'm trying to stay positive with my comments these days....uh, there's an old saying, if you don't have anything good to say, then don't say, uh, nevermind.

Well, you know - I think the last fear factory was pretty good. I read in an interview how they were saying they were trying to put out a safe album..but - it sounds like fear factory, and is pretty good..

the new one...um....yea.

and as for the soulfly album - I have to agree and say the music is really cool - although....what do you guys think of that guitar tone? ...it sounds like a crate amp or something....

Dude, I've said that shit for years... as far as the "new" american bands go... I have no fucking clue why God Forbid have been "under" Killswitch, Shadows, Lamb, and Chimaira this whole time... boggles my fucking mind. The other acts named have some good shit to them, I own their CD's as well... but, I've always thought God Forbid was going to be the band that brought quality American metal back to the forefront. Which isnt to discount Nevermore or Testament and the like, I just think they've already got a fanbase and have a different style...

Basically, I thought all the kids would jump on the God Forbid bandwagon and that they'd be the next "important" american band... so, Im just kinda lost as to how Shads and LoG got bigger so far... anyways, enough ranting for now =P

All I hear in this modern American metal is a bunch of At The Gates and In Flames ripoffs, with some very unmemorable and cliched thrash riffs and cliches thrown in for good measure. Gets really boring really fast for me.

Well.. someone said the new God Forbid has "stockholm syndrome", and it's a crafty lil' line to use, but the riffing and the tone (kranks) and the (albeit BRICK WALLED) mastering is slamming.... doc and dallas are crafy lil' knee grows.

Check out this clip.

http://www.jcm900.com/mp3/promo-clip.mp3 this is not god forbid. =)

At the Gates and In Flames rip offs? Considering In Flames were Annihilator and Iron Maiden rip offs [and they admitted that shit, too]... I LIKE At the Gates AND In Flames... but of course they were INSPIRED by some bands, and GF is inspired by some bands also, so there WILL be similarities...

They've crafted something fucking awesome on their new album, and it sounds more 80's metal inspired than Gothenburg inspired to MY ears... I dont remember IF or ATG ever really creating the amount of atmosphere these guys are pushing into this new album, but, whatever.

You're always going to have the elitist "TRUER THAN THOU" guys no matter what you do...

Ether, havent heard much of the A7 crew... one of my cohorts here was just talking about them the other day, so, Ill take a swing at it and see what's up... I was checking out some of the Bleeding Through stuff the other day, and it was surprisingly better than I thought it would be.

Too bloody right there! Its not just in the states though...it's everywhere. This metalcore trend had better kill itself soon for sake of all the original bands out there.
