i liked some of their previous stuff but i really think they are coming into their own style with this stuff and in waves.. still not exactly my cup of tea but i can appreciate the originality. colin's slick and polished sound is a great fit for them too.

does anyone know if colin's 5150 block letter (which i am assuming was used again on this album) is stock? what kind of guitars/pups does trivium use these days?

Not really feeling the vocals on these songs. Riffs still pretty good though.

yeah that was my first thought too, the vox seem like a small step back from in waves. will have to see what the rest of the album sounds like.

That Draiman influence on Brave this storm is way too high. I just hope the rest of the album won't have any more of that.

Loving "Strife", the other song isn't as awesome.

It's SO obvious Draiman produced this album. At first I didn't know what to think of it, but since I'd consider myself a Disturbed fan up until 10,000 fists I thought it was pretty awesome to hear some of that haha
I can't put my finger on the songs, but I can swear there are the exact same vocal lines in various Disturbed albums.
Despite this I thought the Vocals on these songs where a lot better than in the previous releases.
Really looking forward to this album.

But my opinion doesn't mean a lot anyway, I'm a Trivium fanboi.

I want to like it... but it really just feels like In Waves pt2 featuring the vocal stylings of Draiman... Kills me :p

Pretty much this. And the songs are weaker too, probably their worst album IMO.
I'm guessing he co-wrote a lot of the vocal melodies, cause it's the same shit we've been hearing for a long time. I swear I could find at least two Disturbed songs, one song from Device, and one from this album, and they all would use the same exact melody. :D And I mean exact. Now, that would not be that big of a big deal, but the whole album sounds like a Disturbed tribute with watered down In Waves riffs...

been through it once now, and it's the same as with the other songs that where out earlier. kinda "meh..." on the first time, but grows with every listen.
So keen to see if the other songs are growers too.

agree on the blatant Draiman influence, and i think the vocals are definitely not the strong point of the album. i really like the riffs and production though, probably slightly more than in waves.

I still feel like Ascendancy is their best record. Everything since has just felt like they're chasing something that's just not them.

Mix is titties. Colin is a god.

I was gonna say that this album is as bland as it gets, but it has actually grown on me. For me, I think Shogun is just untouchable, followed by Ascendancy. The new stuff just doesn't touch those records. The mix is awesome. Don't like the lead sound, but whatever.
