Here's some groups that are not metal that are diverse and could have some awesome influence on Metal:

Wagner and other Classical Music...I swear, when I listen to Opeth, it's like Metal Opera!
All sorts of Jazz...crazy ass song structures!
Now I'm not even making sense...hehe...zzzz
