In a recent interview with the "TODDCast Podcast", NICKELBACK frontman Chad Kroeger was asked about the importance of writing songs about personal and intimate experiences. "Well, those are the best ones," he said (hear audio below). "When you write from the heart and write what you know, it always just comes off with far more honesty. It's got more of a personal touch to it. Singing someone else's songs also, that's really tough for me. "When you're in the vocal booth — I've been on both sides of the glass and recorded other people and obviously been in there myself — you can always when a singer gets to a line that they love," he continued. "They nail it every single time; that line is sung with the most conviction out of everything else in the song. You can tell, 'cause they just love singing that line. And the opposite can be said. When you get to a part where the singer doesn't love a certain line, they never sing it well. And so the same thing can go for an entire song. When you've got emotional attachment to something, you're gonna give that thing way more love than you would if somebody else had written those words on a piece of paper and you walked in and sang it." Kroeger co-founded NICKELBACK in 1995 in Alberta, Canada with his brother Mike, who plays bass for the band. They have released nine albums, six of which have gone platinum. With more than 50 million units sold, NICKELBACK is the 11th best-selling music act and second best-selling foreign act in the U.S. in the 21st century behind THE BEATLES. "How You Remind Me" was named Billboard's top rock song of the decade and reached No. 4 on the Top 10 songs of the 2000s list. Besides nine Grammy Award nominations, the band has received three American Music Awards, a World Music Award, a People's Choice Award, twelve JUNO Awards, seven MuchMusic Video Awards and induction into Canada's Walk Of Fame. NICKELBACK is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Feed The Machine", which was released in 2017 via BMG.
