Nightrage - Sweet Vengeance

Awesome review, I already ordered my copy last week and think this will be one of the best releases of 2003. All indications point to a damn good album. Yes, the direction of those bands has opened a gap for some new bands to replace Soilwork/In Flames.

Great review. Nightrage has a very At the Gates sound to it and I really dig the composition of it all, theres just some really subtle things that you hear each listen like the extremely subtle keyboard sounds in the tremor.

I hope the rest isnt as cliche as tremor. I was reccommended it buy or die. It has lindberg which makes it worth the money anyways. Black Dahlia murder are satisfying all my atg rip off needs atm.

I see your point Sadude, its definitely not the most original album. Its great for those who missed out on some of the great releases of the mid-late 90's melodic Swedish Death Metal. Its also great for those of us still longing to hear this style and Lindbergs vocals. Its not so good for those looking for something fresh or original.

I am not totally schooled in the melo-death history but when I heard this album it just jumped out at me as pure quality.
If Haven by DT was supposed to be good this is just sublime.
I can't believe I have not heard Lindberg's
distinctive rasp before (my mistake). Great stuff.
The power metal singer perhaps could have been used more as it appears as a bit of an afterthought.
Those Greek guys are awesome.

Simply the best album of this saturated genre I have heard.
The Iron Maiden influence cannot be ignored but hey I think most people think thats ok.

Yes Nightrage was written by the guitarist Marios Iliopoulos who is Greek,Gus G is also Greek so all guitars in the album are from Greek guys ;)
Check out Exhumation the old band of Marios,i think their albums are better than Nightrage...

I think Tom Englund from Evergrey also plays some guitar on it.......he does all the non death vox on the cd but I think he did play some guitar on some tracks. These put together side project bands always have the musicians trading off spots with each track. ex. some songs might have the guys you mentioned while maybe a few have someone else putting his input on the specific instrument while the other sits out till the next track or so. All I am saying is it isn't an actual band, they all have their own main bands they concentrate mostly on and maybe they will get together again to make another NightRage cd........and it might not have the exact same lineup of musicians as the first time. So there is not a standard drummer, guitarist, bassist, or vocalist.

Good entertainment, an enjoyable listen. Not the greatest and not the worst album this year.
Lindberg fans are advised to check out his current main band The Great Deceiver though.
