Yesterday, I was amongst a small group of journalists lucky enough to be given the opportunity to hear the forthcoming Nightwish album, 'Once', which is due for release through Nuclear Blast on June 7.

You can read a preview and track by track breakdown of the album at http://www.nightwish.org.uk , although bear in mind that only the rough mixes have been heard, and the order in which tracks were heard was not how they will appear on the album.

I thought it was miles better than CC. This is a far more complex and lavish affair than any previous album, with a quite impressive variety of songs. I've only heard it 'Once' (haha), so I obviously haven't formed a final opinion on it yet, but on a first listen it seems capable of rivaling their previous finest moments.

Most fans should like it, although it is possible some may feel the orchestra is a little over the top.

i hate you. i had conveniently forgot about the new nightwish album, and now you brought it back to my attention and i'll be waiting impatiently for it to be released. DAMN YOU! :) i loved century child, especially marco's vocals, i thought he did an excellent job - kinda sad to hear that he'll be taking more of a background stance on the new one. but i'm sure the album will be fucking awesome.

There, there, it won't be long...
Try waiting for a Blind Guardian album instead, it will make your hair grey. :)
