I saw Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age in Oakland last night, not sure if there are any fans here.....

Queens were super tight, and this is the first time I saw them, but I've been a fan for a couple years. VERY impressed. Anyway, great, nice size set for an opener too. I'll make every effort to see them again.

NIN was awesome. I've seen them before, but this was probably the best. They played for over two hours. Trent is all buff and clean cut now, looking healthy etc. He was on fire, sounded in fine voice etc. The set list was:

Pinion
Love is Not Enough
You Know What You Are
Terrible Lie
The Line Begins to Blur
March of the Pigs
Something I Can Never Have
The Frail
The Wretched
Closer
Burn
Gave Up
Eraser
Right Where It Belongs
Beside You in Time
With Teeth
Wish
Only
Deep
Reptile
Dead Souls
Suck
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole

The sound was good, energy high etc. Most notable was that they had one of the best light shows I've ever seen. It was interesting and different all night. At one point a screen came down in front of the band, kind of a see through thing. You could still see Trent behind it with a spotlight. They projected movies on the screen that were in PERFECT synch with the music, very very cool. I've seen such things done before, but not with such exactness. When they hit a monster chord there was explosions right on cue (from missiles and scenes of war...) It was just incredible. Very moving.

Awesome show, and NIN always has the balls to choose a good opener. They had A Perfect Circle with 'em last time.

One of the 5 best shows I saw this year easy....

The Fragile is a brilliant record...easily my fav from NIN. Great band...who I can't decide if they're highly overrated or extremmely underrated. It all depends on whom you ask!

Queens is cool.....I have one of their discs (cant remember the title right now....it's red). Nice groove to their music.

That's a bit of an odd match, I think. Yes, their both successful, but what else do they have in common? APC and NIN are a much better fit.

Yeah, a strange mix indeed. I read reports on both bands webpages, and in both cases the fans seemed unimpressed with the, 'other band.' Ha. Still, I like 'em both so it worked for me. I agree the Fragile is amazing. Downward Spiral is probably in my personal top 10.

Is the latest NIN worth owning?

Although I love Fragile and most of Downward Spiral, music that's heavily based upon electronica has a short shelf-life, IMO. There's just "less there". With that said, as much as I love the aformentioned records, they don't receive much 'airplay' for me.

I don't know if you should get it or not, the new one I mean. It's way more song oriented than Fragile. Just short little three and four minute songs. It's good, but in truth I don't listen to it a lot. A couple of great tunes, maybe five. The rest are kinda middle of the road. Though I will say this; they came off great live.
