According to The Pulse Of Radio, former NIRVANA bassist Krist Novoselic said in a new interview with Reason TV that he believes frontman Kurt Cobain would not have committed suicide more than 20 years ago if he had not been high on heroin. Novoselic explained, "The drug abuse was a big part of it, he was under a lot of pressure. He made a bad choice, he was probably pretty ripped when he decided to do what he did. If he’d had a clear mind, he probably wouldn’t have done it."What would Kurt Cobain be doing if he hadn't taken his own life? NIRVANA biographer Charles R. Cross speculated on what direction Cobain's music might have taken. "Towards the end of his life, Kurt was already talking about moving his musical sound away, he said, from quote 'screaming' and more towards blues-based acoustic music," Cross told The Pulse Of Radio. "My guess is that he would be crafting albums that were of a more acoustic nature, that maybe reflected Americana. You know, he also was very interested in art, so I could have seen him, you know, with a career developing that more."One friend, guitarist Greg Sage of the WIPERS, told NME that Cobain had expressed interest to him two weeks before he died in recording an album of old blues covers.Cobain shot himself to death on April 5th, 1994 at his home in Seattle, after injecting himself with heroin. The 20th anniversary of his death led to a resurgence of interest in its circumstances, which was heightened by the release of never-before-seen photos from the scene. The anniversary fell just a few days before NIRVANA was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The surviving members of the band gave a four-song performance at the ceremony, with Joan Jett, SONIC YOUTH's Kim Gordon, Lorde and St. Vincent singing in place of Cobain.
