I got Coffins on Io in the mail yesterday and I'm digging it so far, but there's something that bugs me — in the lyric book that comes in the CD case there's an entry for every song except Offramp Cycle, Pattern 22. Does anyone know why this is? The lyrics aren't on the internet yet so I find this very annoying

I never read the lyric booklets, so I don't give a flying fuck.

I hope that helps.

Same with Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue. Jason Byron wrote the lyrics for all except Immortelle. There are no printed lyrics for Immortelle. I haven't gotten the record yet, so I don't know who is credited with the lyrics on Coffins.

Ah, that makes sense then. Jason is credited with the lyrics, and all of them sound like stuff he would write except Offramp (based on what I can gather from listening)

Yeah, like a concrete serpent with fangs fastened 'round the throat doesn't sound like something Byron would write.

Here are the actual lyrics:

Offramp Cycle, Pattern 22

Broken glass under a poison half-moon
On some shattered highway that goes nowhere at all
Wraps around its prey like a concrete serpent in the acid rain

With fangs fastened around my throat
I choke on the fumes as the world in a blur
Falls away but leaves me clouded and hollow
Blood on my hands, and a thing in the backseat
That used to be human

Flying on the highway, trying to outrun me
Drained of thought, but the broken glass, it haunts me
Glittering like gems or sparkling like evil rainfall
That turns to steam in the heat
Ugly, hot, and shaking
With the thing in the backseat
It seeps through the plastic shroud…
As I push the needle faster and further

Coronas around the judging eyes of streetlights
Mad with thirst, almost enough to lap up iridescent rain
Just a little further, but the pupils of night are diminishing
Subtle
By the time the smog sets in to eat away the morning
I should be somewhere, praying that I’m dreaming
