No Opeth shows in northern califonia!?

No idea if that's a 'normal' thing for bands or not (to ship the whole tour by air). I always figured they toured on the bus (most the time), with support vehicles hauling the band's equipment and supplies (all the time). But what do I know :).

That probably depends on the band. Shipping a whole tour around by air must be really expensive. Pink Floyd may have done it that time they came here and only did a couple of major cities (don't remember for sure). But they are Pink Floyd! A HUGE band for the CBS/Sony label even though they rarely ever do the touring thing anymore. Well, David Gilmour is going to do a solo tour for his new album soon. Two nights in April are already sold-out in Chicago. There are multiple dates on his tour, too. I'm not sure if he's going to travel around in a bus, but who knows? Maybe he is?! If not, he might do like another previous and successful CBS band - Blue Öyster Cult - who may not have reached the PF strato-success level but they still had major success during their peak years. They still do lots of touring (mostly in the US) but I don't think they travel by bus anymore. I think they fly most everywhere now and only carry their guitars with them. The other stuff - like the rest of the band equipment, stage lighting/sound, and other specs - is in their rider. They must get what they ask for, too, otherwise they wouldn't be able to play.

I guess once you've reached stardom (the peak) and start to level off or even fall below, that famous 'peak' name can help you issue demands that may or may not be met later on down the road. But you have to pay your dues first! Like, well, you know...our new favorite buddies from Sweden and Canada. ;)

Anyway, I hope they can work something out for this tour in NoCal. Keep the faith! :)

The Fillmore has no one on there calender on the 12 of March http://www.thefillmore.com/calendar2.shtml, so it is strange that Opeth is not playing...............Warfield would be nice too, but is booked on the 12th. The Pound has nothing on the 12th either (Kreator and Napalm Death on the 13th.)

We are going up to Eugene, especially since DT is playing.

i would've been pissed too. i live in the SF bay area, but i'm going to school here in LA, so i'm going to the special show :)

Yeah, hey, IT WAS A FUCKING JOKE. Everyone got it but you.

Ah ok. Well usually when joking, it's good provide a few smileys or otherwise indicate it was a joke. You had a frown, which actually made it seem you were serious (perhaps sad that the band had this opinion). Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Sweet car in the avatar, by the way. Are you Vin Diesel? You are just 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS.

It's a Lancer Evolution VIII MR. Turbocharged AWD. Basically, a street going rally car with a long WRC racing heritage. Very fun to drive, very fast. Anyone who knows anything about cars or motorsports has heard of the EVO.

Check this vid of a modified EVO beating up on Vipers and Porsches at Laguna Seca. I had the privilege of riding in that car for a few laps as passenger, and it was a blast!

BTW, I realize you were trying to poke fun at me for having one of them ferrin' cars. It may seem odd or strange to someone from NC, but we can't all drive oversized pick ups trucks you know. Also, I'm not an F&F street racer riceboy type. Racing should be kept on the track.

Yep I noticed too. They're not coming to San Francisco, San Jose, or even Sacramento.

More dates could be announced, but I don't see how they'd fit it, unless they scheduled a date for the 16th of March, when they're still on the west coast. There's no show scheduled for that date right now.

However, they have a show in Tulsa, OK on the 17th. I don't think it's logistically possible for them to travel the nearly 1800 miles between SF and Tulsa with the 18-19 (at most) hours travel time they'd have, unless they and all their equipment went by air (they'd need to avg about 95 MPH). No idea if that's a 'normal' thing for bands or not (to ship the whole tour by air). I always figured they toured on the bus (most the time), with support vehicles hauling the band's equipment and supplies (all the time). But what do I know :).

Anyway, unless they add another special date on the tour, or come back for another leg, looks like they're skipping NorCal :(.

Boo!

When Opeth were here back in October 2005 at the Fillmore in SF, I clearly remember Mike A on stage saying, "We'll be back in February".

I suppose I could head down to LA, but it's 300 miles away. Pretty far, but I'm sure others drive as far or farther to see a band. Maybe we're just spoiled ?

Having said that, there are 8 Million+ people in the SF Bay Area. Seems a pretty significant market to skip. I don't believe any of the posts about Mike or the Band saying they don't like SF. Seems ridiculous to me.

Oh well. Hopefully we'll get a show here. If not, I'm sure it wasn't for lack of the band and management trying. Sometimes venues are just booked up, etc, and they can't fit it into their schedule when they're in the area. Although, between Sac, San Jose, Oakland, and SF, and all the other towns in the area, there are quite a few venues I would think would be appropriate. Who knows.

I guess I should be happy we got a show in October, but somehow I think I'll feel cheated if we don't get one on this outing.

<fingers crossed>

+1

They should have said, "Fuck off," to LA and done the Evening With at the HP Pavillion.

Hrm. I didn't consider the 12th since it looks like a day off.

Eugene eh ? Yow. That's 560+ miles for me! LA is closer (342 miles), but not sure if it's already sold out.

Heh. Well, I'm not sure sure about blowing off LA either. They deserve a show too IMHO.

Hehehe. I like your signature pic of Mike. O UNIT! :tickled:

You know what ? I just realized that they may have decided not to come here this time 'cause they were here twice within the last year. I sort of forgot they were here for Sounds of the Underground this summer, then they came back in the fall on their own tour.

I'm not sure if they were on the LA SOTU bill. I don't think they were @ every SOTU show. Of course, I could be wrong. ;) If I am, uhhh, I never posted this .

dont be mean wanker

i dont care about sissy california.....all i demand is this:

COULD THE BAND PLEASE....I BEG YOU....PLEASE....TAPE THESE EVENTS

"Chronology MCMXCIV - MMV A live observation by Opeth"
Yes folks, that is the "title" for three exclusive gigs scheduled for NYC's Town hall centre (23/2), Chicago's House of blues (2/3) and LA's Wiltern theatre (14/3). These special seated events will consist of a chronologically played setlist, starting with music from the very first record "Orchid" and ending with vibes from the latest opus "Ghost reveries". These extended sets are exclusive to the three dates and there won't be any support bands on these nights. A good advice is to get your tickets quick as these are bound to sell out fast! Opeth and crew will also bring in extra production and screens in order to try and make this the ultimate Opeth live experience! The band promise a very varied setlist and songs never ever played before live! The setlist boasts no less than 4 songs that never before have been played on American soil and several others that haven't been played for years!

Pre booking is sold out that's why wer're "Goin to Oregon with an achin' in my heart"................anyways it's probally just as fast to Eugene, considering LA (fuck LA) traffic.............

I just broke down and bought a ticket to the Chronology show in LA. I guess I'll be driving/flying down there for the show.

I couldn't resist a show with music from all of their albums! And if they film it and it comes out as a DVD ala-Lamentations, it'll be awesome. I'll be able to say "hey! I was there!"

No idea if they're doing this or not, but seems silly if they didn't. Any such DVD would certainly be a big seller.

Should be a great experience regardless.
