Non-gay bro thread a.k.a. Random offtopic stuff.

Cypriot apparently, but yeah he joined them in 2021 so it would have been him. It's always tough to replace a lead singer, especially with the way they go so deep into their story concept, but feels like they made a great choice with this guy.

The only experience I really have with Gloryhammer is their old singer doing a guest spot with Nanowar of Steel, which was entertaining. Other than that, I haven't had the desire to check them out I guess.

You'd have to be quite into Power Metal to really appreciate them, as they fully embrace the cheesy nature of the genre. I respect bands who own that, rather than trying to pretend it isn't, but yeah... I can understand someone who isn't particularly into the genre having little interest in them. Even I, as a Power Metal fan, typically only spend time with a handful of songs per Gloryhammer album. I would say it's like that for a lot of the more traditional PM bands I've listened to. Stuff like Freedom Call's Eternity or Fellowship's debut album are the exceptions rather than the norm, in terms of genuinely enjoying and being engaged from start to finish.

I completely forgot about Night in Gales in the last few years, turns out they've been putting albums out steadily since. Focus on melodies and not so much riffs but the style of leads, and more importantly, lead guitar tone and production is really to my liking. What a fun and enjoyable listen throughout the entire album, even if not original at all.

Night in Gales are a very under-the-radar MDM band, their albums from the 90s are excellent if you enjoy that style of MDM. I really like both Towards the Twilight and Thunderbeast. They lost their way a little in the 2000s, but the last three albums especially have been really strong. Back to da rootz.

Holy fucking shit, they actually did melodeath for the first time since 2000 (I’m not counting The Living Infinite, that shit was not MDM)— At least discounting the vocals, anyways. And it’s surprisingly great too! Overgivenheten did basically nothing for me, with only the preview of Nous Sommes(?) on social media exciting me— Before it was tuned up half a step to sound like a standard Soilwork melody instead of something almost bluesy, anyway. This is a seriously welcome change.

I did find myself constantly wishing for ‘99 Björn to start screaming even though that is impossible, but a man can dream. I think he’s a fantastic vocalist now, but old Björn is simply one of my favorite vocalists period. Fantastic song though.

I first thought you were exagerating when reading you while at work without having listened to the new song.

But no, it's really a return to violence with straight forward kind of riffing just like what they were doing in the past and what DZ are famous for :kickass:

A great surprise.

Ohh, very nice from Soilwork. I had basically no interest in Overgivenheten, which was a shame as I really, really liked Verkligheten. This song sounds great, though. A good mixture of their older stuff and some of the newer stuff. If the new album is in the same vein then it's looking good.

As with many of the vocalists from that era, that style of screaming is sadly just not sustainable long-term. Speed made the right choice to change style, and he still sounds good, but I do miss that early era screaming style. Totally understandable that the guys from that era don't do it anymore though. Listen to Lindberg these days - totally fucked, because he either couldn't or wouldn't change his vocal style.

On the plus side, Speed continues to be one of the best clean vocalists in the metal sphere.
