sounding the seventh trumpet is a metalcore cd withs its roots firmly based in both melodic death metal and skate punk rather than the traditional hardcore roots for the genre.

the first thought you get of Avenged sevenfold is of At The gates if they grew up in Southern Californa and were skaters or Ranicd if they were from Sweden and were obsessed with vikings. Songs often start out as hardcore rawks and breezy skate punk melodies then suddenly veer into a headlong collosion with a Bjorler brother style breakdown. from there the directions the songs take are varied drifting through most of many styles that Avenged Sevenfold have mastered be it crushing riffs accompained by gluttaral black metal style vocals or posion of the well style moments of calm inbetween the passages of all compassing visceral storms.

In interviews Avenged Sevenfold often mention the influnence of Scandnavian black metal of their music. On first listen apart from the vocals this seems to be a false claim as on the rare occasion they sound like Black Metal they just sound Borknagar or Dialbolical Masqueade at their most At The Gatesish.after several listens you realise that the drummer ( who bears the original and refreshing monicker of the revenard tholomew plague) unlike the stereotypical image of a hardcore drummer can do a lot more than just smash the drum set repeatedly. His style of drumming although not being all out black metal blastbeats and all, is heavily influenced by of Hogh and Adridan Erlandsson though still keeping within a metalcore framework.

The only track on the album seeming out of place is warmness of the soul a paino led soft rock anthem which sounds like something coprarte execpt on hearing you dont have the urge to die.

all in all sounding the seventh trumpet is a album which is a essential for any hardcore or metalcore enthuisast and worth a listen for anyone whos into Melodic swedish death metal.
