Non-Metal Chicks?

I second that Diana Krall and add Nora Jones and Natalie Cole, then I have just this one song by Eva Cassidy which shows outragous vocal skills, kinda folky. Then of course the Wilson sisters but they were pretty much metal in their day as well as other varieties.

Hm, not many bands with female vox that I listen to. Fleetwood Mac's awesome of course, but I hardly ever listen to them. I prefer the more energetic/soulful female singing over the soft/sentimental shit. The Fifth Dimension rules, and Spooky Tooth has some great soul-style choruses, though the lead singer's a guy.

"soft sentimental shit" is awesomely powerful too, it just depends on where the power is drawn from

notes are notes, its whats behind them

being how energetic and soulful female vocalists were mentioned... Joplins performance of "Take Another Little Piece of My Heart" from Montery still sends chills up my spine. Possibly one of the best if not most important female vocal performances of all time.

look bellige... double post... call the forum police

and that just reminded me, Etheridge... damn that girl can sing

look Bellige... TRIPLE post... OMG

Really digging Fiona Apple lately. She's obviously borrowed heavily from Nina Simone et al, but her modern twist on the style is way cool.

Others off the top of my head:

Aretha Franklin
Janis Joplin
Bjork
Nina Simone
Gillian Welch
Beth Gibbons

Sandy Denny.

Singer for Fairport Convention. She has the most haunting voice, and her songs are fucking awesome.

Lucinda Williams too. Badass woman.
