I'm taking a trip to Boston in June. What would a metalhead recommend that I do/see? Yes, I know Newbury Comics, but is there anything else in Boston for our ilk?

Furthermore, I have the time to hit any surrounding areas. Any recommendations? How is Providence? What about Hartford? Worcester? Augusta Maine? Albany? I'm looking for someplace to go after to or in addition to Boston. I don't want any bullshit tourist trips, but I do like shopping of all kinds and places of a "rock" nature (punk areas, artsy areas, etc). Give me something off the beaten path somewhere in the Northeast if you can and you'll have my eternal appreciation!

If you're not in the Northeast, I plan on hitting Virginia Beach in August. Any ideas around there?

Thanks in advance! :kickass:

Im in Southern NH on the MA border and originally from Albany NY area.

Too bad you didnt mention beer/breweries haha then I could have helped you.

I can tell you this. The Newbury Comics in Nashua NH is the best one (Ive been to 7 different locations). They actually have a huge dedicated Metal section.

Theres a store in Waterbury CT called Phoenix Records. Carry a lot of Metal, and even bootlegs (I saw a huge stack of Dream Theater boots).

Don't bother with Albany! Saratoga on the other hand is a fun place to hang out for a day. Stop by Last Vestige if you go there. They have a lot of used CDs & records. I actually spotted Kamelot's One Cold Winter's Night DVD for $12 (I already own the special edition) and a bunch of Fates Warning albums & a DVD. Also look at The Palladium in Worchester & Webster Theatre in Hartford for shows to see if there will be anything good while you're out here if you want to go to a concert. Though you don't really ever have to leave Boston. There's tons of things to do there.

Thanks! I know Boston is loaded w/ stuff to do, but I'm still debating about spending the $$ on a hotel room if I find other stuff to do in places I've never been.

Those are some really good recommendations! Thanks~!

Well, if you're looking to save money on hotels, you can stay outside of Boston in one of the areas where the T will take you into the city. I've only done that once when I drove up and didn't want to pay $20 a day to park my car at the hotel. I usually just go for day trips.

Baltimore (I hail from the suburbs) is a little closer to Virginia Beach than Boston, so I can give you plenty of tips for that area - although I'm not sure how far off the "beaten path" you want to travel/drive. Baltimore is about 4.5 hrs from Virgina Beach. Jaxx on the other hand is only 3.5 hrs from Virginia Beach and they have a ton of great shows coming up in August (Symphony X, Kamelot w/ Leaves' Eyes, WASP, Nile, etc.).
I can elaborate more on the Baltimore area if you think you would travel through there.

Yeah, Baltimore is no problem. I live in central PA so that's only 3 hours for me. I'll be in Baltimore in July during a trip to Gettysburg. My girl is demanding Legal Seafood for her birthday dinner. I'm a regular at Jaxx's European shows and I stay in DC all the time but I'll still take any suggestions for that area too!

Go to Anapolis and stop by McGarveys.
