I didn't watch the whole thing, cause I was busy cracking up at Conan's "car chase," but he said he was going to play some Echobrain and I missed it (I haven't heard any of it, but I do get mixed reviews from those who have). He did call James his "brother" right before "I Disappear" came on, mentioning it was from MI:2 and that it was his last video taped with Metallica. I forget what other videos were on, which means it was nothing to get excited about, but it was better than seeing Bach's crap that was blissfully cancelled. So I wonder if they're going to have a different host every week or if Jason is it?? He did say he was the host of "tonight's Rock Show" so maybe he was just a guest. Who knows anymore? Anywho, at least we know he's still alive.

Jason Newstead is the smartest member of Metallica...he's the first one to get off of a sinking ship. After And Justice For All I thought that noone would ever replace Cliff, and I wasn't impressed with Jason's work, but by the time I saw him play live touring for the black album, I realized that he was indeed a worthy successor.

I'd be interested to see what Jason does next.

Yeah, I've read many interviews with him about how the writing and production of And Justice For All pretty much gave the entire album no bass sound at all. I don't think anyone thought he was worthy of Cliff's spot until someone pulled their head out of their ass and let him be heard. Harvester of Sorrow is a great song, but the live version I have completely blows away the album version so badly, I rarely even listen to the album anymore. IMO, his bass kind of came out of nowhere on Black, but it was welcomed with open arms.

Newsted said people described Echobrain as a cross between Jeff Buckley and Soundgarden, and he agreed with it, as do I. They aren't as good as J.B. and Soundgarden, but I'm thinking about buying the album now.

I've got the Echobrain album and its pretty cool. Not exactly what anyone was expecting, but that analogy of being Jeff Buckley versus Soundgarden is about right I think.

But its a good album and I would love to see em live, mainly cos i hear they like to start jamming on the songs :)
