Maybe it was just my expectations, but I wasn't impressed by the album. There are a couple of not too bad tracks, but nothing remarkable. Axl was/is a dick to be sure, but his voice lended a unique quality to the music, and an attitude that fit the music. VR's stuff his pretty generic and never would have been noticed had it not been hyped as much as it was.

with the way axl was, he probably has a court order saying that they can't play any g'n'r stuff. pretty silly, but so is axl.

yeah remington, i saw godsmack the year before they broke through to being a national act. back when they were just another local boston based band. before they had there hit single that was on the waaf compilation cd that wasn't on the first pressing of their debut albumn. after that, it was like all these bands came out of nowhere that had that sound. and godsmack made all the new material sound that way. we actually started playing one of their unplugged songs at band practice on our acoustics and i realized that it was the same progression as neil young's rockin' in the free world.

Love Godsmack, but you can see how the tour w/Metallica has influenced the acoustic CD. Saw them both in Anaheim, CA last month. I think that Godsmack would do better touring on their own. They paid too much respect (though due) to Metallica that it took from their show. I'd like to see them as the main event.
I thought Velvet Revolver was ok, but if your looking for an album from a group like VR, I think Brides of Destruction is great.

Saw Godsmack right after Whenever made them huge, and they were good live. Even opening for other acts like Megadeth, Primus and Rob Zombie.
I couldn't really get into the Velvet Revolver cd, besides a couple of the songs that have been played on the radio. Dunno why, just couldn't get into it. I'll try it again in a couple weeks, sometimes that works on getting me interested into a band.

Actually godsmack started off as an A I C tribute band and are named after one of their songs. I don't think sully sounds like hetfield at all. i DO think he uses way too much effects on his vocals. i think they're probably ten minutes into their fifteen minutes of fame. i saw them on the metallica tour when they came to beantown the tix were free so i shouldn't bitch, but it was boring. when i saw anthrax @ the northern lights night club in ny, i had 10 x the better time.

I don't know what Scott's situation with STP was, but Slash, Duff, and Matt just wanted to keep on rocking and that faggot primadonna Axl was keeping them in the way. I think it was genius of them to recruit Scott Weiland.
I love the super groups with new front men that had previous band experience on a national level. AudioSlave has Chris Cornell, Velvet Revolver has Scott Weiland, and let's not forget the innovators, Anthrax with John Bush.

yeah, i really dig the audioslave tunes i've heard. don't have their disc though. thing i didn't dig about rage was the politics. the music was good though. hopefully, that won't happen w/ slave.
