I've not been on here for about a month and had a quick look just now to see if anyone had posted about this album yet but was suprised to not find anything

It's insanely amazing!!! Everyone's been saying 'Necrophagist meets Cynic' which is a pretty fair comparison I'd say. Can't get enough of it, the guitar playing is awesome.
My only gripe is I'm not a huge fan of the rhythm guitar tone

Anyone else obsessed with this album?

We played with them last month. Really impressive players! Like the album a lot...

Off-Topic: I'm still kinda bummed you guys had to cancel your gig in Leipzig on Jan. 30th... and then the power blackout disaster with TBDM... bad mojo that night. But CC and especially Psycroptic were awesome!

I really enjoyed this album. Been looking forward to it for a long time. I especially like the fretless bass but I don't like the tone on some parts. I think it needed more of a foundation but great album nonetheless.

It's still not out here in Europe... but at least it's up on the web in its entirety now. Makes the wait a little easier...

I've been following these guys since summer last year when I met their ex-guitarist at a gig. He was quite praising them, and after checking out their promo, I was instantly hooked.

I also have been a little disappointed with the rhythm guitar tone, IMO their promo sounded better. But songwise the album absolutely slays. Showed it to the other guitarist of my band and his jaw hit the floor after about 5 seconds... :D

And "Necrophagist meets Cynic" is pretty on the spot since the band has two ex-members of Necrophagist, and Tymon is making a guest appearance... ;)

I can't really fathom the complaints about the guitar tone, it's an overall very pleasing, fatigue-proof and clear production to my ears.

On the whole the productions great and very clear. There's just something unusual about the rhythm tone when you listen on headphones. Maybe lacking a bit of attack or maybe a tad much gain...either way it was only a very very minor gripe of mine and this album is easily guna be in my top 5 for 2009

Hard to put in words, it's some kind of nastyness in the highmids or something like that.

Thing is, I was so used to the sound of their promo (listened to it so much on myspace last year). One day they took the promo off and put one of the actual album songs up, and when I listened to that (without knowing they changed it) I immediately thought "WTF has happened? why is it suddenly sounding so thin and shitty!?"
And then I thought "no noes, please don't let the whole album sound like that..."

I actually have grown accustomed to the sound now, and in general I like the production alot. I just miss the rhythm guitarsound of the promo... it wasn't that much different, just sounded better. A little warmer and more natural IMO.

FWIW, here is a song from the promo on Youtube, sound quality is of course pretty shitty, but compare it to the sound of the actual album:

EDIT: click the actual link to get to the stereo version.

I've been diggin' this album so far! It's growing on me I think. I had the same opinion of the guitar tone. Definitely not as sweet as "Epitaph" from Necrophagist. That tone has the perfect amount of gain, mids, and clarity.

Indeed, and the promo guitar sound was closer to Epitaph...

actually now after comparing back and forth the album sounds like the guitars got quite a hefty presence boost in the mixing phase.
