ASTRIAAL
Over the last 10 years the accumulation of accolades achieved by this Northern horde has been copious and unmatched within Australian borders. Their support (if not outplaying many on the given night) slots, both locally and interstate, such is their reputation amongst promoters, includes internationals: Mayhem, Arcturus, Suffocation, Destruction, Deeds of Flesh, Incantation, Opeth, Nile and Pungent Stentch. A considerable amount of coastal tours spanning nine years have been executed. Their invariable headlining of Australias biggest metal festivals, Metal for the Brain, Bloodlust, OverCranked, Black Apokalypse, Morbid Tales and Metal Surge proving their adoration amongst fans across the barren land. During the unfailing touring schedule the band placed on them selves, the writing output never once wilted. In 5 years the band managed to release all up a Demo tape, a 7, LP, 3 mCDs/EPs, various compilation appearances, and then finally 2003 struck with the unleashing of their first full-length, Renascent Misanthropy. Worship amongst metalheads around the nation reaching its crescendo, with the opus being voted by the listeners of National broadcaster Triple J, as best Australian Metal album 2003.
800 copies of RM where initially pressed via BlackTalon media and quickly sought after. A further 1,000 digipak pressings where unleashed thru AfterMath Music (Norway) for European and U.S distribution. Both now sold out.
November 2007 draws OBSIDIAN RECORDS first foray into re-release territory. New revised booklet artwork has been penned and a CDROM affixed with the Arborescence Pro Live clip from Bloodlust 2004 and bonus live image gallery spanning almost a decade.
Word received from Astriaal is this re-release will act as the perfect prelude to their follow up album which is nearly completed. An initial goal of recording within the confines of the first quarter, 2008, has been internally set, with a mid year release date expected. A darker, heavier and more foreboding opus is expected upon its unveiling, with select sonic strains being emitted live.
Your last chance to purchase Renascent Misanthropy now beckons. Duly noted as a landmark in Australian Extreme Black Metal. The demand will be high, with a legion of eager new fans wanting a slice of what has only been obtainable for their aural pleasure, in a live setting.

OBSIDIAN RECORDS are proud to expel the first full length necrology from the Brisbane horde, THE DEAD, who infamously and vehemently brandished the OBSIDIAN RECORDS name nationally in vinyl form near 1 year ago. Featuring Scott Edgar (Misery) and Mike Yee (Obfuscate Mass) bludgeoning involvement alongside the six string bass mastery and primary writings of Adam Keleher and the human metronome Chris Moore. The accolades amongst the past and future support slots from this four piece have been as consistent and uprising, as the momentum towards this full length has built to a violent crescendo.

The OBSIDIAN RECORDS tentacles slither forth vigorously and grasp firmly, with no prospect off letting go to the upper echelons of Extreme Australian Label proliferation and status, with the exciting announcement of future collaborations with Green Media Distribution.
Green Media Distribution, established 2006, and owned by Chase management (owner of MGM distribution) was formed with the intention of being an entry point to new artists and labels. Green runs parallel with MGM to bridge the gap between market entry initiatives and national demand requirements.
What this means for OBSIDIAN RECORDS and the artists it proudly represents: Currently our mission statement attests to the following: Obsidian Records is an independent label whose aim is to rightfully expose, promote, distribute and create an awareness, which we feel is at times desperately lacking, of Australias finest underground talent on a national and international level With this exciting union, our network of potential outlets to expose our supported art will increase exponentially. The opportunities we fight so hard to attain for our artists, presents, to proudly splash the Australian extremities in larger retailers that cater for the less nationally exposed metal minion; enhancing the potential to keep the Australian metalhead dollar IN AUSTRALIA.
Green compiles and distributes, to more than 500 retail outlets nationally; each release through Green is catalogued and available to be ordered form the plethora of Indie, Leading Edge, JB Hi Fi, HMV and Sanity stores nationally.
