TOOL drummer Danny Carey is collaborating on a new project with Les Claypool of PRIMUS and Adrian Belew of KING CRIMSON, according to Carey's official web site (www.dannycarey.org). No further information is available at this time.

BTW, check out his kit on his site. He put the hi hat in the middle of the kit, above and between the two tom toms, instead of on the left, as is traditional for right-handed drummers. I can't figure out how he plays with the hi hat and share drum in a perpendicular line from where he sits.

I have also heard that ex-Pantera members (that's right: EX) Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell are starting a new band with ex-Halford guitarist Pat Lachman (who will be the lead vocalist) called New Found Power.

They're not "EX" Pantera members until Phil and Rex come back or let them know that they're not going to play with them again. Besides, it was Pantera LONG before Phil or Rex joined and the Brothers Vince and Darrell Abbott own the name of the band.

Besides, with as many crappy Pantera shows that I've seen in the 10 years that I've seen them, perhaps it's for the best.

That band with Belew, Claypool and the drummer from Tool sounds good. Saw King Crimson a few years ago. An amazing show.

With what you are talking about with the high hat. I use to play with a drummer who put his high had in front of him. He used a remote pedal to control it. He was an odd drummer but probably one of the best I have played with. He only used, on average, 3 cymbals, sometimes 2. He was heavily influenced by Bruford and Dennis Chambers.

I've been to many shitty Pantera shows as well . . . although Darrell and Vinnie are excellent musicians. They showed Metallica a thing or two in their early days (e.g. Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power). Apparently they aren't willing to wait for the other two to tell them when they're "ready."

Hey, I like playing around on the kit!!! I gotta try that with the hi-hat! Seems kinda kool.:)

hmm... Could be cool. I just hope Adrian handles the vocals instead of Les.

I dunno, putting it where he's placed it is about the limit of your arm's length. I don't have a kit but just sitting here, I placed my arms in the position that kit would require and it felt unnatural as hell. Well, I'll leave it up to you to mess around with it since you have a kit. :)

Ya, it wouldn't be any different from using a remote hi-hat on yer right, sinse that's what it is, except it is your primary hi-hat. True, if you had to really reach for it, I couldn't imagine it doing you much justice, but I got a new kit which is very compact and it's very difficult to have anything out of reach! I'll mess with it and let you know what it's like if ya wants. Only problem I forsee is finding a good way to mount that sucker there in between the toms. Oh well.

Nikki-
My old drummer used this type hi-hat with the remote pedal. He use to mess with it with both hands. Had it up in between the toms. Played it like a ride. Also I think he liked having more room to hit the snare with his left. Guess a lot would depend on your arm reach. As far as mounting, he had a rack(?) that held the toms and cymbals.

I'm looking forward to hearing this group. Just picked up the 'Audioslave' CD. Pretty good stuff.
A lot of heavy groove to it. With Chris Cornells vocals it is pretty hard hitting.

I read Danny isn't using the hi-hat in front anymore because he isn't satisfied with the cable mechanism.

The Audioslave CD is pretty good. However, most of the songs are in the same tempo (as are previous RATM CDs) and it's rather lengthy. But DAMN, can Cornell SING!!!

Listened to the whole thing (Audioslave) now. Some great stuff. Understand what you mean about the tempo thing. The two highlights are definitely Cornell singing and am really enjoying the guitar work. Lots of different sounds and textures. There are some really nice slower/bluesier tunes at the end that have some nice feels.

I'm glad I can finally listen to Morello completely. Always heard he was really good, but could never get into RATM.

Will be interesting to see how far they take this group. Hope it isn't just a one CD thing. One thing for sure is some of these songs will be good for driving. Good high speed music.
