Opeth forum is the best at UM

It happens. At one point that probably would've been true. It's unfortunate now that the largest forum community seems to be that moronic cesspit called SOT. No matter how bad things get here, you can rest assured it won't sink to that level.

Very untrue statement....this forum sucks. The Nevermore board is where it's at...

Just pointing out that this thread is 3 years old, you had not joined the UM community yet (neither do I).

I don't think this forum sucks, maybe it was better back in the days when the band was a little more underground, but I think we had some interesting discussions in the past months.

quoting from a post on that thread:

" I'm afraid the Opeth board blows away the rest of the UM forums for it's depth, intelligence, and array of topics. "

maybe it's cuz we're constrained to opeth topics nowadays...

or maybe it's just the people :/

I think a lot of the problems these days with online communities is that you start to get groups of people that, instead of intelligently discussing things, decide that their way is the only way and all other people's opinions are sh*t. It's pretty sad. Obviously once this happens it spurs verbal insults and "battles" and...well, you know the result in all that crap.

Even though alot of people on here won't admit it, the Opeth forum started going gradually downhill even when the Off-topic forum was around. It was on a communal decline long before any of the strict regulations were in place. I'd like to think it's the people more than anything else. I still recall the old crew from when I joined back in 2002... those were some great times. I used to come here and I"d actually have the ambition of 'learning' something and coming away feeling enlightened, and would you know it, I was seldom ever disappointed.

ok man :)

it's amazing how people that don't even post in this forum find out about one post in another forum and then come over and have a counterpost...then go back.
how the hell do you find out about this one post? friends, i suppose. oh well, go back.

we are in a post-modern era.. where communeties and clubs are now virtual and not established some where physicly so you get all the morons and all that shit

My favorite forum on UM has to be Bloodbath. There isn't to much posting going on, but when someone does post it is actually information and not bullshit.
I know I haven't even been on UM for over a year, but since I've been here the Opeth board has noticeably sunk below the level it should have, and I agree with Moonlapse that it is the people. I empathize with him when he talks about how interesting the Opeth board used to be, and there seemed to actually be a sense of community which is now seriously lacking from the board.

I got fed up with this forum after the 108302183297493274th 'who is Melinda?' and 'the cough on the Moor?' threads.

I was forced to migrate to Offtopic (as it was back then), and found myself caught in its eventual transition to SOT

Now I am forever to reside in the abyss of its endless threads about Goatse, pussy and liberalism. So sinful...so good...*eyes glow*

Who really cares? Every forum is filled with numbskulls and fanboys. If a forum is void of all offtopic talk, it's bound to get pissy and boring...there needs to be humour in ones life. Which is why I barely visit this forum anymore.
