OPETH guitarist Fredrik Åkesson told the "Everblack" podcast that most of the material for the band's upcoming album, "In Cauda Venenum", was composed during a time when guitarist, vocalist and main songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt was supposed to be taking a break from OPETH to focus on his family life. "I went down to the rehearsal room, because I'm usually there playing some guitar and trying out amps and gear and stuff," Fredrik recalled. "And then I heard [Mikael working] in there. I was, like, 'What the hell?' He was supposed to take a break. He's been talking about this break. But I guess he can't. So he got the writer's poison. So he started in November of 2017, maybe, or December. Then the beginning of next year, 2018, he was extremely productive there for three months and wrote the majority of everything, basically. And I could tell — the first song I heard was the last track of the album, 'All Things Will Pass', and I got goosebumps at the end. Then I figured, 'Oh, he's really on to something now.' Then he asked me to put down some solos. And that was fun. It makes you a bit more involved." "In Cauda Venenum" will be released on September 27 via Moderbolaget / Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Recorded last year at Stockholm's Park Studios, "In Cauda Venenum" will be released in two versions, in both Swedish and English languages. Various physical and digital formats will be available. Last November, OPETH released a live album, "Garden Of The Titans: Live At Red Rocks Amphitheatre".
