I'm at orientation for the University of Texas, and there are 1200 more people here than went to my 200 person high school. This is also just 1 of the 6 orientations they give during the summer. TOO MUCH TOO MUCH
I was really bummed the first day since I didn't interact with people too much as they would always let me down. Case in point: I talked to this one girl who seemed cool but who then turned to her friend and started talking about what she was going to wear to their crush (sorority rush thing). Plus we had to go to a whole gaggle of these campus awareness presentations that teach us to go to the hospital if we get stabbed...
The only thing that's gotten me really excited is this freshman English honors program in which I'm participating. It was really relieving to sit around just 30 people and have a fellow that I probably wouldn't have ever thought to talk to explain the merits and downfalls of Anna Karenina. The professors that run the program are almost like fatherly figures (really warm and caring) and give you loads of one-on-one advising and personal registration stuff. All in all, that saved orientation for me. the end.
