Thoughts?

It seems he is trying to attach this act to his strict practice of Satanism. I just don't get it......

Holy shit, no. Just checked http://www.dissection.nu and you're right about the Satanism tie-in. I don't disbelieve that in some way he felt that his beliefs supported his decision to kill himself, but I can't think that he was somebody who had an easy time sleeping at night...

shouldn't satanists embrace homosexuality? I've always wondered about this. I mean I'm no expert on satanism by any means, but some flavors [such as Laveyan satanism] are intended as inversions of christianity; wouldn't it then be most reasonable to have gay orgies in the face of the homophobic christian establishment?

I don't pretend to be an expert about such things either, but Satanists don't agree with each other on this (neither do Christians!) I know that Varg was disgusted by Euronymous' "coming out" so to speak, at least according to what's written in Lords of Chaos.

In other news, a psychologist is fearing that some of Jon's fans will attempt copycat suicides. To her I say, "what fans?"

maybe you guys should get the correct story before you open your mouth about the dude. he didnt actually kill anybody, he was only there when someone else killed somebody making him an accessory to murder. sure its not the most noble thing on the planet but its much different than actually pulling the trigger.

Oh alright. I never really paid much attention since I wasn't a big dissection fan. thanks for the added details...yeah accessory to murder is not as bad obviously, but not so good either. heh

my complaint holds true in general though for people like Faust of Emperor killing gays etc...it's just frustrating to see members of bands you love so much do such stupid things.

I've always known the correct story. He willingly and knowingly allowed it to happen. It's not any better to me. It's beyond fucked up.

Yeah I usually do a good job of separating personal politics from music, unless it's in your face in the lyrics (well, if you can understand the lyrics, sometimes with blackmetal I'm glad I can't )

I still think the first Emperor album was one of the best metal albums ever, regardless of what faust did. and if he cleaned his shit up I'll give him credit for that.

I know this isn't an Emperor thread, but it makes me angry thinking of what might have been recorded by that band just after ..Nightside Eclipse if half the band hadn't been incarcerated. I mean Anthems was decent, but if they'd continued with the vibe of the first album, who knows what they would have done. that's my own opinion and complaint though, I don't expect others to share it.
