I remember quite a while ago someone started a thread to petition against a law that prohibits tabs and lyrics on the net. Then they shut down MXtabs.

Well, now they've stopped MySongBook from providing tabs. I'm extremely pissed at this, and well, I just wanted you all to know about this..

My Song Book is perfectly legal in every single regard. Original interpretations of music as sheet music do not constitute ANY form of infringement on copyrights unless you try to SELL them. Providing interpretations for free, however, is fine. To prove copyright infringement you HAVE TO PROVE ACTUAL COPYING. so RE-tabbing it from an offical score would be infringement, but doing so by ear is not. If you make that illegal it is just as logical to say you cannot listen to a CD and figure it out on piano by ear and play it. Plus, even if one argued that it was infringement, it's clearly a fair use for scholarly purposes. MySongBook seems to be running perfectly, so I'm not sure exactly how valid this information is.

Hmm...its interesting...I stopped visiting there for almost a year...

and this past week I went there for the first time in months and the page wouldn't load. I figured it shut down. I tried again today, and the page loaded, but where the floppy icon was is now a do not enter sign that says we can't download until copyright consent is confimred...

one word...gee:mad: :err:

Straight from the main page:

"Providing some tabs - even made by ear - of copyrighted music is illegal. In order to respect the law, downloads have been limited to the [Composition] and [Competition] files. We are going to make our best to find a solution to offer music content without infringing copyrights."

there are a million tab sites out there. They cant stop them all. I usually use ultimate-guitar.

I also hope they fight back, this is bullshit.

Neither PowerTabs nor MySongBook can provide tabs anymore, but as most of you probably know, Ultimate-Guitar still has PowerTabs and GuitarPro tabs, so I'm not too concerned. Right now, I'm just going to download as much as I possible can from Ultimate-Guitar because I have a feeling that it will be the next site to go.

No, and it's this part where Kazahana would chime in with his rant about the "buisness" side of this issue, but he hasn't been 'round these parts lately (or at least I don't think so.) so I'll just say...

I WANT FREE TABS!!!

P2P people. Especially in cases like this where the "law" is being heavyhanded and impinging on its own regulations. Fight back? Just "steal" it. Especially since it *is* legal to interpret songs if you're not selling them.

Mr. Fast, if you cathc that, get a screenshot and send it to me, for my collage, just in case I don't get it. I need more for my Legendary Postcount collage.

...I'd be pissed, if not for the fact that I bought Guitar Pro 5 so they gave me that little option to download the whole archive in a zip file. Hency why MetalMan57 hasn't needed to visit the site for a while, 'cause he knows me. Anyone need help?
