Did anyone notice the unbelievable amount of Auto-tune that was used on Billy Joel's vocals during the National Anthem? Any thoughts on that, or Prince's performance?

(I thought Prince ruled...Purple Rain and Little Red Corvette are amazing albums in my opinion)

Yeah Billy Joel was auto-tuned out the ass, it was like they applied the Cher effect.

Prince, on the other hand, absolutely ruled unholy amounts of ass. I loved his cover of Foo Fighter's Best of You - I love the original song, but hearing Prince do it was really, really cool.

He's an insanely talented musician, and it was probably the best halftime show I've ever seen.

I agree, best halftime ever. I was worried they'd make him lipsync and air guitar... I am still saddened by how James Brown synched his SB performance.

But instead he just fucking SLAYED.

Tone was bad, but then, it was a TV feed and those things are always mixed oddly.

I didn't know that was a Foo Fighter tune.

And I was really glad he played so much guitar. They usually cut solos and stuff in favor of pieced together medles that amp up the cheese factor, but this was killer.
:kickass:

Nice Schecter, too , eh?

No, that tone that Prince had was fucking great. That's something I never thought I would say. I had no clue he could wail! He should drop the fairy act. At least for the super bowl, for chrissakes! His guitar playing was chilling though.

yeah...i was ignorant to how well prince can play the guitar. i was pleasantly suprised. great halftime show. i suggest they get Iron Maiden! HA! Seriously though...that would really get the crowd going. Maiden is probably the best live show i've ever seen.

Prince is an insanely talented guy....just needs a little more quality control in the writing dept. He's so prolific but churns out mediocre stuff and I can't say I'm a fan of his mellower R&B stuff, but he's a hell of a live performer.

I grew up with the early stuff, dug the production on the first couple of NPG albums and always dug his guitar playing. Often plays everything on his albums too. There was a live vid from the Sign of the Times era where he jumped on the kit and layed out a dodgy-but-acceptable double kick groove.

Ive beena huge fan of Prince for years and although he does put quite a lot of filler on his albums you cant fault his musicainship or production (IMHO)

I'd love to see you tell Prince that....

Did anyone notice the similarities between Prince's guitar playing and tone to Jimi Hendrix? Prince has said repeatedly over the years that the reason he started in music was to be like Jimi. It's obvious...and he has made the connection very blatant through not only his music, but his style as well.

Just a little FYI - Prince used to have his engineers setup the session and then order everyone out of the studio while he sat in front of the SSL and recorded himself.

I think its also unbelievable how well his set came across even though they were playing in downpouring rain...just awesome

PRINCE=Super Bowl MVP

one of my favorite guitarists ever

wish he would play it more often
and I didnt check the youtube links but search out the set he did at the rock and roll hall of fame with Jeff Lynn and Tom Petty, they did "while my guitar gently weeps" one of the finest displays of guitar badassery you'll ever see

Yeah, that was my first impression. If it weren't for all the lollipop, his writing talent and feel on guitar could give all the Hendrix and SRV clones a run for their money. Anyone know his guitar rig? My guess is a Marshall, of course. A really fuckin dialed in Marshall. An Ubermarshall!

I was with extended family watching the game and I was the only one into the performance. I had a hard time explaining to them why he is such a genius. I guess you either get it or you don't.

Lol - I just had the same discussion with my wife! My explanation was that before MTV, people actually listened to music which makes it much easier to understand.
