I got a new guitar and amp for my birthday...

I havent touched one in about 2 years, I remember along time ago ( I was 14) I played till my fingers bled . My first guitar was a Flying V( a truly blessed guitar  )..
My finger tips now are so totally raw,and the sad discovery, That everything I used to could play is just that...within 4 hours I have tightened all my fingers back up, so at least im not sloppy about it...
I cant do reighn in blood the same ( oh so many forgotten slayer songs, ) Yet I can still play some of TOOL's finger tricky shit..Go figure :D
and even sabbath ( how could I forget where they are on the fret board)
I just barley remembered the second riff after the opening of NIB
I couldnt even remember the opening riff to testaments "Souls Of Black"
My brain, a library of musical knowledge and tribute to metal, shaking head sadly, is empty... o_O

I will just keep on playng,it will come back :headbang:

yeah but look at this way?

I no longer have a huge record collection ( 687 cd's before the entire collection was stolen out of my sisters truck while I was moving)
and I could play at least half an album per cd ( some of them I knew the whole album front and back)

see I can run, yet I have to learn to crawl all over again

so easy to foget stuff hey,if i make a new riff i record it then and there lol, otherwise its down the tube.

Yeah I know
Soon I will be going to school to do just that,
Dallas Sound Lab, Its a year course teaching you how to run all the mixers in a professional studio, even a buisness course to show you how to start your label,
heres another bonus, as I will be a student there, The studios in dallas Sound lab I will have free access to even after I complete the course.

3rd largest studio in the states, they also produced Cowboys from hell and Far beyond Driven.
I was supposed to start in july but had to postpone it to September, We have to find an apartment closer to school and still close to our jobs , which we are getting ready to do here in June

Im eager to get there :D

Good luck with school bro! I live right down the street from a school called Full Sail in Orlando, I see full page ads for it in guitar magazine. It's all about recording, sound, visual, etc. I guess a lot of people become successful after graduating there, but when I talk to the kids who go there they all say it's hard as hell and there's no way they could ever work while they go there. If you're gonna work, good luck balancing the two. When my band gets huge, maybe you'll do our sound! We'll pay good:tickled:

yeah They are showing you everything involved with recording,
moivie dubb overs, its not a limited field .All of the Instructors of the school have been involved in the recording biz, including there own record companies
If Full Sail is anything like The Lab, Your networking should be awesome, I want to go to Next years " South By Southwest" in ( Oh geez city's are mixed) its held each year the first or second week of march in Austin, I missed it this year, I didnt know about it untill the weekend of it,

Robert Plant was giving a lecture on how It works and his carreer within the industry, there are movie people there looking for audio techs, There are tons of record execs, over 200 bands and live performances, the entire event is about a week and a half long 9- 10 days fourhundred bucks covers entry for the whole event,

Nobody mentioned hotel reservations( you almost have to book 6 months in advance).
and cost of food, and no telling how much cash for whatever little tidbits knickknach items, go to
www.sxsw.com Hey Cartoon Network guys where there this year ( adult swim rocks)

just play for fun,its all good.

I have been playing guitar for while, but still no good at it !!!

I think I need to take some more lessons...........

As a result, I will only play for fun because that's as far as my skills will take me.

I was surrounded by it as a kid, weened on the beatles, and everybody at woodstock my dad plays anything with strings, My mom plays flute totally digs Ian Anderson ( did you pay attention to His breathing on Locomotive breath) I wonder if Scott was Influenced by it for PnV, somebody had to have been.

My grandmother played piano so did my great grandmother

see it runs in my family, I picked this thing up as a kid, its something I keep alive as my father and i are the only ones left that plays anything.
so If I keep doing it, I may be able to influence my sisters kids into it.

If I stop now, whos gonna teach my kids about passion in music, ( we dont have them yet ,we will when its time) in the meantime, theres school, and a carreer to develope just so I can afford all my toys :headbang:

its all good m8,i went thru a faze where i would maybe play my guitar for about 20 mins a weeks lol, wasnt until my mate got me into blues i actually got intested in picking guitar up again and just fooling around,i originally had lessons but now just pick up guitar and play my own stuff, learn some old 70 songs good practice lol, even if u pick up guitar and fuck around for ten mins everyday u will get better in no time at all,and u will start coming up with your own shit eventually.

good luck bro....must admit..have a collection of my own....got some cheap ass electric guiter, though must admit....im pretty crap....i can listen to something and usually repeat it note for note...though my real fav is my bass guitar.....though....when i listen to primus and try to imitate...it dont usually work out....lol

Ha! Yes Les is a badass, but understand that he is an original and no one can copy him, which is what makes him a legendary bassist. I started out playing metallica and anthrax songs, and it helped me learn HOW to play, but not what to play. My band is doing very well now and I've found my own niche and style, thanks to my influences. I've even been told that my stage presence is very similar to that of our beloved Scott Ian, and I've been told this by people who don't know me or know that he is my favorite musician since I was a kid. I guess maybe I stole a few of his moves, but not on purpose. When you're on stage you play and act as you feel, and he has inspired me like no other. Don't worry about having a cheap guitar, it only matters when you're recording! Tear it up and become a great player, don't worry about Les (none of us can touch him). Keep rockin':headbang:

I picked it all up by ear, I know where every note on the fret board is
( down side is I couldnt tell you what the note is) Its like perfect pitch ( that ear thing) except i dont know what im playing, ( sounds stupid ) but then I can play almost anything within 15 to 20 minutes of hearing it,
They will fix that at The Lab also ( so this is whats its like to know what yer doing?) :D
