Here is something of interest to you thrashers courtesy of Cameron Edney from Inside Out:
This year marks the 30th anniversary for New Jersey thrash metal legends Overkill, a band that has certainly had one hell of an amazing ride! Along with bands such as Anthrax, Exodus, Hirax and Slayer Overkills popularity was rising fast due to the genres new fast, punishing, aggressive style of music which was soon branded as Thrash Metal. Like most bands who have celebrated this type of longevity the ride hasnt always been smooth. Since forming back in 1980 Overkill have undergone many line-up changes but this hasnt stopped bassist D.D. Verni and vocalist Bobby Blitz Ellsworth from achieving their goals. The bands biggest blow came in June 2002, whilst performing Necroshine in Germany, frontman Bobby Ellsworth suffered a stroke onstage and was rushed to hospital. At this point the bands future was up in the air, but fortunately Bobby made a full recovery and was determined to get back out on the road as soon as possible. Eight years after that life changing event Bobby and the boys are showing no signs of slowing down just yet!
This week Overkill release their fifteenth studio album Ironbound, which features some of the bands heaviest and fastest thrash to date! The first single from the album Bring me the Night is just a tease of how amazing this album really is! To coincide with the release of the bands new album, Overkill are about to embark on a six month tour which will see Overkill heading back to Europe, South America and playing a series of shows across the United States. Last week I had the pleasure of catching up with Bobby to discuss the bands new album Ironbound, the possibility of finally touring Australia and celebrating 30 years in metal!
Sit back as we go on a journey 30 years in the making Killing for a Living with the legendary Bobby Blitz Ellsworth
