Overkill - 'The Electric Age' - March 27th

I've been a huge fan since '87. Saw them for the first time in '88. Many years later they are still kicking ass. I'm loving the new disc \m/

I was invited to the listening party for this this past weekend, however I was heading to Albany instead of straight to Manhattan on Friday so I missed it. However I did get a promo of the album and listened to it on the way home Tuesday; it is pretty good. Maybe that streak of good album, not so good album is finally coming to an end for them.

I've only listened to the first half of it so far. It sounds good, but it is definetely not hitting me as hard as Ironbound did the first time.

its a bit one dimensional and too ... i don't know ... happy in some ways and while Blitz's lyrics are memorable the riffage is lacking.

Wow, nothing on this album is doing it for me other than the first track. With Ironbound I was hooked from the beginning. But nothing is sticking with me at all....Too many of the tracks are too fast and sound the same, not the mid paced crunch I love hearing from Overkill. "Who tends the fire" is still my favorite Overkill song to date, and coming in a close 2nd is "powersurge"

...not hitting me as hard as Ironbound did the first time.

me either. But it's still good, quality Overkill along the late 90's Necroshine meets a bit of From the Underground & Below.

Dusty - make sure you give my fave track (#3) a thorough listen. That opening scream gives me chills every time I hear it. wow!

some of the deeper cuts have a great groove to them too.

Yeah, I still like Ironbound better at this point. But I already like this one better than the prior two combined (Immortalis & ReliXIV).

The first listen to this was in the car coming back from New York and I was half asleep but it did seem alright. Although I totally missed when my girlfriend switched out the Forte I had just picked up so to slide this CD in; so at first I did not realize it was Overkill.
Listening to it again right now for the second time I still think it is not that bad, but it does seem like another weaker one.

Most awesome song of the whole CD, song #9 All Over But The Shouting!!!!! Great chorus...very memorable!!!!!!!

Gotta lot of mouth for a Jersey white boy
Beat the drum now you've gone too far
Drag it out .. ended up injured
Old wounds .. Brand new scars .. Brand new scars

All in all a good solid disc, but it's not quite up to the level of Ironbound. It's still a winner for me though.
