OZZFEST VS. MAYHEM.....

I bought a $10 lawn ticket for the Chicago show.
I'm going to arrive around the time Halford hits the stage, I'll check out Motley Crue for what it's worth (Never seen 'em) and I want to see Gus G play those old Randy Rhoads solos.

If you look at the interactive map on ticketbastard for this show 60% of the pavilion seats are still available and the show is less than a week away, that's pretty bad.
I have a feeling they will be upgrading all of us on the lawn for free and close the lawn off (they've done it before).

I believe Mayhem had a much bigger crowd than that but I wasn't there.

If I can get $10 for the MA Ozzfest I might decide to go. Since it's the last one, maybe there will be some funny end-of-tour drama/pranks.

I think all those fest are not doing good. Did you get your tickets at the Maiden show? they had all those fest tours dirt cheap for sale.

Interesting....people don't buy music anymore so bands go out on the road to try to make some $$$. Yet, people won't buy the tickets to go see them live either... how can music in general continue down this path?

Was at Mayhem at the Art Center in Jersey. Place was maybe 2/3's full. Unimpressed with the line up. Found sticking it out a chore. Rob Zombie was the one act I truly enjoyed.

I'll be at Ozzfest in Camden. The lineup looks more promising. Hope it delivers. Seen enough of the Ozz, but I'd like to see how Gus does with his material and if he gets to add anything. Don't think I've seen MC yet, so I'm looking to see if they can still deliver.

Seen enough of Halford, but I'll watch him for awhile. I always enjoy watching Zakk in BLS. I loathe Goatwhore and will make sure I'm drinking a beer somewhere when they're up. As for the rest, we'll see. Maybe California Wildebeest will be the sleeper band. heh.

No Live Nation had a $10 lawn ticket one-day-only a couple of weeks back with no ticketbastard fees. They did a similar thing with Kiss and I picked up a ticket for that as well.

I think the economy just sucks right now and there's a lot of deals going on everywhere just to get people to go out.
I've never bought so much music in my life or gone to as many shows in year as 2010. Mainly because I couldn't afford it, but with $5 digital downloads and $10 concert tickets I'm having a blast. :D

I think people are just getting wise to the over priced concert tickets, over priced CD's and so forth. As discussed a zillion times here....prices on some of this stuff needs to come down a bit and more people will go to more shows and buy more CD's.

^^^^^And it would also help if you did not have bands with frontmen who are way past their expiration date.

Zombie was the only thing on that tour that interested me, and so it was not enough for me to want to go. He'll tour solo again someday.

Honestly, Ozzfest trumps Mayhem by a mile. I actually like Kingdom of Sorrow, mostly due to Kirk's playing though. However, I can stand Jamey tons more in this band than in Hatebreed. I'm a big time BLS society fan. Devildriver I tend to like in terms of metalcore for some reason. Live they tend to be better than on disc too. Halford not so surprisingly is THE reason I'm going since I've never seen him solo. I've actually never seen an Ozzy solo set outside of the one Ozzfest he headlined the second stage. I don't have huge expectations since I know his voice is lessening more and more, but it'll be interesting to see Gus G playing for him. Crue I think is okay, but they're not my cup of tea. I honestly don't know if I'll stick around in the pavillion for them or not.

Beyond that, the others don't appeal to me, but compared to past years there really aren't bands I downright hate except for maybe Drowning Pool. I've never heard a note of Nonpoint, but I'm expecting they're run of the mill stuff.

I would say it's a mix between these two explanations. I will say though that I'm surprised tickets are still this expensive in this economy. They really would be making much more money if they lowered the cost a bit.

I think in terms of the lineup this year's Ozzfest and Mayhem are both pretty much par for the course. I do agree that last years Mayhem had an overall better lineup as compared to this year though.

I do think that Mayhem is better run however. The one thing that has always bugged me about Ozzfest is the set lengths. Looks like it will be the same thing this year. You can see below that there's 30 mins between bands, so I figure 20 mins of set time and a 10 minute changeover; so most of the second stage bands get only 20 minutes with the exception of the second stage headliner and maybe one or two others. Mayhem bands got a minimum of 30 minutes this year, even the local Jager band. The majority of the bands on these festivals that I want to see are the second stage bands so it really bugs me that Ozzfest gives them only 20 minutes. That's what 4-5 songs tops if you're lucky? The other thing about Ozzfest that I don't like is that the second stage headliners set has always overlapped with the first band on the main stage. So there is no way to catch full sets from both bands. From what I recall this year there was about a 10-15 min break between Hatebreed and FFDP on the main stage. It just has always seemed to me that you pay more for Ozzfest and get less.

Here are the set times for the opening Ozzfest show this year BTW.

Main Stage:

OZZY OSBOURNE - 9:15 p.m.
MÖTLEY CRÜE - 7:45 p.m.
HALFORD - 6:40 p.m.
DEVILDRIVER - 5:45 p.m.
NONPOINT - 5:05 p.m.

Monster Energy Second Stage

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY - 4:55 p.m.
DROWNING POOL - 4:05 p.m.
EXODUS - 3:20 p.m.
SAVIOURS - 2:45 p.m.
GOATWHORE - 2:15 p.m.
CALIFORNIA WILDEBEEST - 1:45 p.m.
KATAKLYSM - 1:15 p.m.
SKELETONWITCH - 12:45 p.m.
IMMUNE - 12:15 p.m.
Gates Open - 12:00 p.m.

True. The early Ozzfest bands do get shafted. However, in my case I tend to dislike the early ones, so the quicker they're off the better for me. The second stage to main stage thing has been annoying though. Mayhem I would say is run better because there you have 2 side stages and typically when one band ends the next one starts immediately.

As for the set times. Saw this earlier. Very disappointed by the set length for Halford. So much for all three top bands having a headliner set like they initially said.

Main Stage:

OZZY OSBOURNE - 9:15 p.m. (would see ozzy if he had to sing in sign language if possible, also exited to see gus g)
MÖTLEY CRÜE - 7:45 p.m. (vince cant sing or remember the words, so we can sing for him and watch them kick some crue ass)
HALFORD - 6:40 p.m. (legend, enough said)
DEVILDRIVER - 5:45 p.m. (have grown on me, one of the hardest working bands in metal)
NONPOINT - 5:05 p.m. (will get booed off the stage as chevelle did in 2003)

Monster Energy Second Stage

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY - 4:55 p.m. (exited to see bls on the 2nd stage, doesnt zakk sound a lot like ozzy? to me he does)
DROWNING POOL - 4:05 p.m. (they mean well but suck!!let the bodies hit the floor and get over it)
Kingdom of Sorrow - 3:20 p.m. (no kirk= bullshit, i guess he is going to rehab)
