PABLO - The Story Of Love And Hate
Music For Nations - 2003
By Mark Bridgeman
From the first track, the vocals reminded me of John Lennon's more psychadelic performances (anything from the mid-late 60s to early 70s), which was indicitave of what would be the entire album's use of retro sounds to frame their own musical ideas.
Example: the first track sounds like Lennon fronting Nirvana, second track is almost Sabbath (with Lennon again), and so it goes.
PABLO are not remarkable, but they are nevertheless entertaining. If your interest is in Nirvana, Sonic Youth, or anything that blends pop, punk, and classic rock, then this album will definitely sound good to your ears. If you're looking for a breakaway classic remolding rock'n'roll into its own image, then this ain't it.
Certainly rocks, though.
