Featuring members of Red Sky and Nemo, Papercut Homicide's latest release brings together elements of death metal, noisecore and grind to form a terrifyingly intense and bewildering concoction of extremity. Try to imagine the members of Cephalic Carnage, The Dillinger Escape Plan and and Agoraphobic Nosebleed recreating the bar-room gunfight from Desperado, and you're some way towards imagining the bewilderingly brutal yet strangely balletic sonic carnage on offer.

The album's title is very apt, as it happens, since Papercut Homicide seem to have brought together the heaviest, most extreme influences and brought them crashing together in such a way that the result is imbued with the same grace that, say, a death scene in a John Woo film is graceful. Each element of the sound, frantic and cathartic though it may be, is nevertheless placed with near-obsessive attention to detail so the result hangs together.

As such, the tortured screams, machine-gun drumming, frenetically-hyperactive riffage and high velocity bass guitaring are as placating as they are incendiary - you can either sit and listen to this album calmly, or throw yourself windmilling around the room to it - either way, it's just as effective.

Well worth the asking price - quality extremity from craftsmen in their field.
