According to The Pulse Of Radio, PEARL JAM is donating 100 percent of T-shirt proceeds and 25 percent of all goods sold on the band's official web site through March 12 to Planned Parenthood Federation Of America. The goal is to help ensure equal health care for everyone, especially in states where clinics have been or might be defunded. The band is also donating proceeds to Planned Parenthood Global in support of health care partners across Africa and Latin America impacted by the recently reinstated global gag rule. The limited-edition shirt was designed by PEARL JAM bassist Jeff Ament. Ament said in a statement: "We've been wanting to do something to help since we heard about the defunding and closure of some of the more isolated clinics, like El Paso and Midland, that has resulted in women having to drive hundreds of miles for reproductive care. Planned Parenthood is being threatened with massive cuts and it's more important than ever to show our support for one of our favorite organizations." In similar news, alternative pop act PANIC! AT THE DISCO has also released a T-shirt with all proceeds going to support Planned Parenthood. Singer Brendon Urie said: "We're doing these shirts to show our love and admiration for a cause that offers help for so many people — over 2.7 million women and men, in fact. I also refuse to succumb to intimidation or threats. It's really the least we can do." Republicans in Congress have been trying to "defund" Planned Parenthood for years, even threatening to shut down the federal government over the issue in 2011, because some of Planned Parenthood’s clinics offer abortions. The bill released Monday by House Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act includes a provision that would block people with Medicaid coverage from receiving care at Planned Parenthood health centers.
