Quick question for gear (pedal) knowledgable people :

Is the DigiTech Metal Master pedal a good pedal/ what style tone does it give?

Bad pedal. Dont buy it.

To help you though, how would you be using it? As a Boost sort of pedal put through and amp with distortion? Or will it be your main distortion provider?

if its for a boost or something like that, Id get a Maxon or Ibanez Tubescreamer, or one of the boss pedals like the Overdrive or Distortion ( the Orange one ).

or i

it sounds really hollow and empty. its just doesnt have any balls or character. Very digital, but not even the "good" kind of digital, if that makes sense.

also, It just doesnt provide good tone for any style tbh. Many people have this misconception or whatever that Death Metal just needs to be distorted, regardless of the tone. If you are going to use it for that, Dont. And tbh its not good for any style of metal, imo.

This.
Death metal should be distorted, but tbh a digital sound kills it.
Digital distortion generally sucks tbh, but most pedals that claim to be "extreme" have shitty digital sounds.

Never been a big fan of digital guitar pedals but you'll be surprised with how many bands record straight from a crappy guitar pedal. If you do want to stick to "cheaper" options, I opt getting a Boss GT8 or GT10 used, it actually sounds pretty decent.

I still like my distortion from tube amps :)

Asking because I got the pedal in OP with power adapter for 20$ unused second hand, pretty cheap regardless. Wanted to know whether I should keep it or try to trade it out maybe at a music store for something else.

in OP? If you have t, why dont you try it out and see if you like it? Hey what the hell it could work for you.

( I hope I understood that the right way)

The pedal mentioned in the Original Post.

It doesn't sound too bad, but all I have is a 10w Marshall practice amp (Just a beginnner guitarist for the most part). Had a Digitech Grunge pedal before someone gave me and that bit the dust a while back.
Playing with 10w amp distortion sounded terrible.

haha i used to have a Grunge pedal. God did that thing suck, i remember strapping a half stick of dynamite to it one 4th of July.

Buy nothing Digitech, ever.

I'll sell you a Line 6 Uber-Metal pedal for $60 if you want. It's really good for a distortion pedal and for Line 6. It also has an excellent noise gate and is built like a tank.

I appreciate the offer but I am saving for either a decent amp or a better drum kit right now. Only reason I got the pedal was it was basically new with adapter for 20$.

I'd trade you though :D

Not bad for noise, but the tonal shifts possible with the Morph knob are way too unpredictable and the gradient on which they operate seems very fragile/sensitive. As far as I can tell, it attempts to model sounds of various distortion pedal types (it was sold as something that can sound like the ProCo Rat, which it just cannot from how I've used it...then again, how I use it likely isn't similar to how most of you use it :p). I much prefer the Metal Zone.

My roommate has a metal zone but i am pretty sure he isn't going to part with it. I am going near a instrument store that deals with used stuff in a couple weeks so I might try to swap out for a metal zone or some other boss distortion pedal then.

Just skip to a processor which is what I plan on doing.

I have two Distortion pedals(Dr. Distorto Module Pedal and Metal-Zone) not liking either and can't see myself buying anymore distortion pedals using natural distortion which is a lot better. I had a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal prior to these which also sucked.

all three of these pedals sound cheap really just make your tone sound noisy thin fuzzy worse and have no tone depth or power. I was really excited when getting a metal-zone and than realized that no good guitarist with good distortion/sound use or would use these.

Processors are pretty expensive for someone who is still at the amatuer level.

My brother is much better than I am but he plays classic rock/hard(raw) rock/blues. He had some Digitech processor but he barely uses it form what I remember. Think he has some sort of VOX amp and just uses the effects on it since he never plays much that relies on huge amounts of distortion.
