they have laid off the administrative assistant in this office 6 times, and each time, on the day before the day she leaves (did that make sense?) they ask her to stay another two weeks. talk about a jerk around.

jeezus prep, that's awful. I'd quit under those conditions if my heart didn't explode first. Talk about stress!

this is the thing, like she was hired as a temp (two months after 9/11) and they kept telling her she would eventually get a permanent position... they kept putting that off and putting it off... and eventually, they decided to eliminate her position. but then they also realize the director can't do her own job.
it's messed up.

secretary/receptionist is the only occupation where you've gotta spell, write, and speak better than your boss but be paid only a fraction of their salary.

at least here, management usually sucks giant dung beetle creations.

when we were going through a lot of layoffs here I was under crazy stress for months. it was seriously affecting my health. I would go mentle under those circumstances.

i'm like the opposite. i can handle *any* level of stress at work. but everything else ruins me.
