Peter as a lead player?

I think he's great even though solos aren't his main focus in the songwriting. However I have a friend who thinks otherwise saying that his leads aren't that technical or memorable. Come on Peter can solo amazing when he wants he can pull out some crazy improves live from what I hear.

Peter is my favorite Death metal Vocalist, one of my favorite songwriters, and one of my favorite producers. His guitar solos are actually the only thing I'm not that impressed by. His solos on most Hypocrisy Cds were just okay. However, I think that the solos on the last two CDs are good. His lead playing is not so great COMPARED to his vocals/songwriting.

Not sure where I said anything about him not being the only guitar player. Only talking about LEADS here, Solos. Not rhythm guitar.

I've never been a fan of overly technical stuff

i love shit like The Arrival Of The Demons II

just when you think the world has used up all the simple little tunes that sound amazing you hear sumn like that. (wicked solo on that too)

and I think that mini-solo on Thousand Lies is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, infinitely better than any technical solo i've heard (such as the ?three? guitar solo at the beginning of Centinex - A War Symphony)

fuckin 'Let the Knife Do The Talking' that hook riff, fuckin technical enough for me, one of the wickedest riffs I've ever heard.

I can't for the life of me think of putting down his guitarist skills. maybe some peoples music is so shit they need to be technical and overly progressive because nothing they play has great staying power or enjoyment in simplicity, I dunno, but I definitely don't see him as needing to improve on something like that as if he can't make amazing music as it is.

From my understanding there is a difference between leads and solos. I think of leads as higher ranged guitar riffs that carry the main melody of the song, while solos are the freestyle, high-ranged playing often in the bridge of the song.

I love Peter's leads and solos greatly, and I don't find either to be lacking in most songs.

Peter's solos are not complex. Some of them are kinda wanky, but they fit the songs. However, he does have some great ones. 2 of my favorate solos are Carved up and Paled empty sphere. Tasty and melodic solos on those songs.

I've heard leads and solos as being the same thing, but that makes sense enough. In that case I'm not a huge fan of Peter's solos. Don't get me wrong, I think he writes (and plays well!) the best riffs and melodys (maybe this is what you mean by lead?) I just don't like that solos very much. For example, the solo in Legions Descend. It just doesn't make sense to me. Obviously, this is almost nothing compared to how great everything else about Hypocrisy is and I'm in no way trying to say anything's wrong with them, just answering the original question.

Peter Tägtgren is my favorite exsample for guitar palyers that could write much more technical stuff and would be able to play it... but they don't want and need to.

Arrival of the Demons II, Unfold the Sorrow, Carved Up, Deathrow, A thousand Lies, Compulsive Psychosis.... all songs have very good soli.

enjoy peter in action...:worship:

I own Nightmares Made Flesh, but I've been putting off getting Resurrection Through Carnage for the longest time. Maybe it's about time I pick it up.

Be foolish not to have it already, but nothing will surpass the greatness that is NMF.
