So a mate of mine passed on a couple of cdrs of Les Claypools Frog Brigade 'live frogs' 1+2
any one heard these?

set 1
Thela Hun Ginjeet
Riddles Are Abound Tonight
Hendershot
Shattering Song
Running The Gauntlet
Girls For Single Men
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Jack Irons version)

set2

Pigs On The Wing 1
Dogs
Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Sheep
Pigs On The Wing 2

the first set is good, especially the king crimson + floyd covers
but set 2 is pretty damn extraordinary

you remember those pretentiods dream theaters live version of master of puppets
which really was pretty mame

well this is les + frog brigade doing the whole of pink floyds animals album
its both faithful to the original and slightly demented, very live sounding but tight as fuck:hypno:

also borrowed the 5 gallons of diesel dvd which I'm looking forward to once I actually get an hour or two to myself
any opinions on that? (the dvd not my frantic schedule)

And it's interesting because the Animals cover is pretty much straight up like the original, albeit for a breakoff into some jam territory on Pigs. But this is no mere cover album! they all play with such intensity it transcends gimicky.

haha

What happened to Les?, December 26, 2001

This is horrible! Dont waste your money on this one. After listening to this, I dug up an old tape of my High School band playing the entire Animals album. After listening to the tape (which, by the way, is 15 years old) I have come to the conclusion that we sounded MUCH better! At least our singer could remember the words. Les should stick to writing South Park theme songs and comming out with more Primus like stuff.

Saw Les and the Frogs live in October, 2005. Probably the best concert I've ever seen, or close. I'm a Purple Onion enthusiast, but I still actually haven't heard these live discs. Maybe I'll check that out...

edit: They played "Shine on you Crazy Diamond", which needless to say was FUCKING GREAT.

If you're familiar with the Sausage album you MUST hear Live Frogs 1 to hear how much better those dudes sound together these days. It's a shame though that Todd Huth and Jay Lane didn't continue the sausage reunion for Purple Onion. just sayin', even though its still quite good.

That Thela Hun Ginjeet cover actually introduced me to King Crimson, unless you count my mom saying "listen to King Crimson!" since I was 6 years old. I always stared at the vinyl foldout of In the Court but never listened to it, was too busy with David Bowie. :Spin:

Umm and yeah, Animals fucking rocks, it's extremely well done. I got these albums from Artist Direct via primussucks.com I do believe, even if it was during the band's hiatus. No idea if they are still available.

Oh yeah and I saw the Frogs between these discs and Purple Onion, and they were good but not amazing. First half they just didn't click, but the second was pretty good. Included a performance of Bowie's Space Oddity which pretty much made my year though, so no complaints.

Yeah they should've kept the rant, it totally makes that song. Les could've done a Pork Soda bit to it or something.

fantastic as far as a collection of songs go, a cool sampling of a variety of Les' projects.

But the video quality isn't too consistent. Sound stays pretty nice throughout, though...
