Pink Floyd's "The Wall"

The Winnipeg Warrior

The Winnipeg Warrior ®
Anyone here like Pink Floyd? The Wall is still one of my all-time favorite albums. It sounds as fresh today as it did when it was first released. Man.....would the world ever go ape-shit if they could ever put aside their personal differences and just kiss and make up. Aside from that pseudo-reunion at Live 8 in London, a full-blown world tour in support of a new album would just be what the doctor ordered. Funny.....not even that huge wad of cash that was waved under their noses made them flinch!

I'm a huge Floyd fan as well WW. DSOTM would definitely be my favourite Floyd album, in fact probably in my top 5 favourite albums of all time, its just a total masterpiece. But I would say The Wall is my second fav Floyd album, it's brilliant from start to finish with some superb songs on it like In The Flesh, Thin Ice, Young Lust, One of my Turns, Run Like Hell and who could forget one of the best Floyd songs ever, Comfortably Numb. Every song is terrific on The Wall, with maybe only Mother being the one I'm not too keen on.

I saw Pink Floyd yonks ago doing The Wall down at Earls Court in London and of course they were magnificent. By the time they got to Comfortably Numb, the wall was fully built and I can remember as clear as day the amazing sight of Dave Gilmour sitting on top of the wall playing the guitar solo at the end of Comfortably Numb with lots of smoke swirling all around him. It was absolutely awesome.

I actually won tickets to that Live8 concert in Hyde Park in London but in between me sending off my text entry and getting word back that I'd won 2 tickets, I'd gone and booked up a holiday cos I never for one minute thought I'd win the tickets. I was really devastated not being able to go, there was a big pile of dross playing there anyway and the only band I wanted to see was Floyd but I couldn't really cancel my holiday, so I gave my tickets away to my cousin instead. It would have been tremendous to see Floyd again but I definitely think they will do some more concerts. They always said they would never play again but they played at Live8, so I think there's a definite chance they will play again within 6 months.

How weird is this - right after I typed the above post, I just turned on Planetrock radio and guess what song has just came on - yep Floyd Comfortably Numb- the live version - wow that's freaky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree animals is my fave or meddle. the wall is awesome in its own right for sure.i was a late bloomer with pink floyd- being turned on to the band not thinking much of them and then actually diging them alot only a few years later.great band!

I love Pink Floyd but the Wall is probably not my favorite cd by them. I personally enjoy their earlier more psychedelic stuff. The Wall sounds too much like generic rock in some parts.

Can anyone explain the relationship of 'The Dark Side of the Moon' and 'The Wizard of Oz?' I've read a little about this but have never actually tried it. Have any of you? And if so, do all the pieces fit when it comes to the sequence of songs during key parts of the movie?

I tried it once and it wasn't that great, maybe we did it wrong though. I'm sure you could put a ton of albums on while watching that movie and notice stuff.

Amazing album though, and fucking amazing band. David Gilmour will always be my favorite guitarist.

Anyone else have the Live at Pompeii dvd? It's beautiful stuff.

The Wall is probably my favorite followed by DSOTM and Wish you were Here... oddly i like the song Mother on the Wall... Run Like Hell is probably my least favorite... just on a further note i been reading the book Saucerful of Secrets.. a bio of Floyd.. very very very good book and i highly recommend it to anyone... makes me now know how much of a asshole Roger Waters is and how not enough credit was/is given to Gilmour for the music.. Waters is the lyricist no doubt... but i have a inkly feeling Gilmour came up with some of the more interesting musical points in their songs after Barrett.. read that book.. you will love it...

No he's a good composer/lyricist... that doesn't make him a great musician lol ...he's not known for his bass playing .. which is mediocre at best... though i like some of his bass riffs.. he is no where near great on that instrument.... now Gilmour is a "Great" guitarist... :worship:

being a composer is part of being a musician.
he compose MUSIC! lol, that actually is the most important thing in music.
but yes his bass playing is not that great, but he had some really cool bass riffs...

The only one i like i think is MOney.. the bass riff i mean.. i dont think i really paid too much attention to his riffs to single any other riff out... Money is more memorable...
