Anyone got a DAB radio? If so well worth tuning into Planet Rock. They play an awful lot of Saxon. And not just Wheels Of Steel either. So far I've heard Denim and Leather, Midas Touch and No Surrender.

Nice!

Mind you, they do play a lot of Genesis as well. :puke: :puke:

Had mine for 2yrs mate where have you been!! Yes it is good.Twothings I don't like with it though is when i am at work is 1)They play the same tracks over&over again and they don't play new stuff. We need a station that plays all kinds of rock from Britain,U.S.A.,Sweden,Germany,Japan,Ireland,Austrailia,you no what i mean!!
And leave Genesis alone they were a great band Except for slushy Phill Collins tracks!! I have all there cd's ok

Waiting for them to come down in price, that's where! :D

Except for slushy Phill Collins tracks!!
That's exactly what I am talking about Mr Exxie! ;)

Anyway, I know what you're saying but I'm happy with it. For me it's a real novelty to turn on the radio and hear proper music instead of all that dance crap.

I got a digital radio for christmas! I have been listening to 'planet rock', and also another rock station called 'the arrow'. Unfortunatly, most of what i have heard so far is stuff like E.L.O, the kinks, t rex, e.t.c. I must admit though, they did play Wheels Of Steel. Mabey im a bit young for some of the stuff they play? Its still worth tuning in now and again, just to see if anything good is on. :headbang:

Nice Prezzie Crusader747!

We do need a station that will play classic metal and rock, along with the new rock releases. Surely, there is a demand for it?

As for Genesis - speaking as a bit of a Prog Rocker, I thought they were ok when Peter Gabriel was with them. When he left things started sliding down, although some of the early Collins stuff was ok! I think I decided the guy sold out when he spearheaded that crap 'Invisible Touch' album! Yuch!
Can anyone believe that once upon a time, many years ago, Phil Collins was a great musician!
So, is it worth getting a Digital Radio? I've been thinking about it for some time now.

I've listened to Planet Rock through Sky, and they do seem to play a lot of the old Prog Rock stuff. Total Rock used to be quite good, playing metal (although a lot of it was nu metal), but they did play a lot of proper metal also. But Total Rock radio seems to have totally disappeared.

I finally went out and bought myself a DAB radio, and love it! I really wished that I bought one ages ago!

So far Planet Rock has been great. I have only listened to it in bits and pieces, and never for a long time at once. But they have played some great stuff, including 747 and Never Surrender. On New Years day they are repeating the top 100 rock chart, as voted by the listeners. It's a great top 100, and the top 10, and even top 20 are superb! You can listen to Planet Rock on satellite and online if anyone is interested.

Well, after over a week tuning in to planet rock (and tuning straight off again) I have given up with it. I have never heard so much crap in my life!!! :yuk: They even play stuff by david bowie :puke: and bruce springsteen :ill: and weard seventies progressive rock stuff :zombie:
Also, the other so called rock channel 'the arrow' is even worse

2 minutes??? :yow: I have had it on quite a lot this last week, and after listening to three or four crap songs in a row, i would change the channel for a few minutes and then change back to total rock, and they would still be playing crap! Ok, they might play the odd motley crew song, or a bit of metallica, saxon, whitesnake e.t.c now and again, but most of what they play is easy going old twaddle, NOT HEAVY METAL.:bah:
There is also a Kerrang radio station, but that is all new stuff like nu metal and emo, and god knows what else? I wish Radio 1 would bring back the friday night rock show :kickass:

To be fair to them, they are called Planet Rock and not Planet Heavy Metal. And they do say they play all kinds of rock, which they certainly do. I turned it on this morning and it was total pants, but other times it has been quite good. But as I said in my first reply to this thread, they do seem to concentrate on the older rock stuff and not too much on heavy metal. But Planet Rock can be good, but also crap, so there you go!

I agree with you Paxoman! :worship:

Basically, i just don't think it is worth listening to music that is as you say 'pants' for hours, just on the off chance they might play an occasional 'good' song.
Im glad Mr Sanchez likes it, i wish i did too, but i dont.
You should hear the stuff the other 'rock' radio station 'the arrow' plays - sixties mersybeat stuff, rod stewart, the beatles, 70's blues rock fusion stuff? AAAAGH! :erk:

Yeah, I do sympathise with Crusader - but it is all about your own perception of 'Rock' music. Like what Paxo said, if it was titled 'Metal', the listener has a more defined idea of what they are going to hear.
As I am a bit of Prog Rock person, I wouldn't mind hearing some of this stuff. I also like Bowie, and the more traditional Springsteen (in other words, not that awful commercial crap). But it is hard to please everyone when you simply state that you play 'Rock'! Apparently some of the young 'uns these days call chart stuff 'Rock' because the song features a guitar!
I'm all for Crusader's crusade of bringing back the BBC Friday Night Rock Show. That was a great spread of decent Hard Rock/Metal music. Surely, there is a demand for it?

As for 'The Arrow'? If what they play is what Crusader describes, they can shove it up their ass! Bloody Merseybeat Bollocks! Rock? You are joking!!

Basically it's not a metal station. It doesn't play anything likely to frighten the horses and it doesn't play any new stuff. It's a classic rock radio station and there's nowt wrong with that. For me, it's just great to turn on the radio and not hear loads of crap dance music.

There's obviously a need for a more specialist station and would be good to have a station that would get behind new UK talent. Ideally, Total Rock would broadcast on DAB as well.

But in the meantime, a radio station which plays Led Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, Deep Purple, the Who, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Motorhead and Saxon is fine by me!
