Playing while intoxicated

I dont drink or smoke so i cant say anything about my playing, but my friend for example, he swore he was a better player when he was drunk/high. Man did he have a skewed perception of his playing. He was much much worse while intoxicated. I dont really have any other people to compare with, but i would think even if youre phenominal at guitar, your playning would only get worse with intoxication

Actually, I have gotten used to, I can play drunk, I do not like to, but I believe when you play live you should have a few beers or shots to loosen you up, me, I usually have three or four beers before going on, not as much as I used to, because if you are wasted you just suck, i found that out the hard way, actually our whole band did one night.

I only smoke weed, but when I get stoned, I believe I play better. I am much more patient, especially when I am learning something. My solos are played more fluidly and smoothly because I am so much more relaxed.

I can play pretty good with a few beers in me, but when I get too many in me, my desire to play well or learn new riffs pretty much becomes secondary. Too much of a "hell with it" attitude.
High, I can freestyle/write like a mother but I can't play a song I already know to save my life. My mind starts wandering and I lose my place everytime. I also have a problem with getting totally hypnotized by the riffage causing serious balance issues! :hypno:

hm, when I'm drunk - not too drunk - I can play quite ok, and it's somehow more fun. when I'm stoned I almost can't play at all because my left hand touching the fretboard feels so weird...

playing after two or three beers is ok, but everthing else just fucks it all up.

well, caffeine intoxication really improves my playing :p

I don't do any other drugs than nicotine and alcohol (does porn count?), but when I've had too much to drink, all my accuracy goes out the window. I remember playing Creeping Death once, while drunk at a rehearsal - and afterwards I was bleeding from my picking hand... =P

yeah, a couple a beers to loosen up and then it's all good. like sex, a couple is okay, maybe even really good, but there's a point where too much beer or anything is gonna be a bad thing. I can't do anything when I smoke weed, but talk about stupid stuff and then talk about it again, cause I forgot I already talked about it.

Hmm, well I find the creative juices going much much better when I've smoked, but I have trouble remembering what to play so I generally don't smoke before band practice and never before a show. If I've had a couple drinks, I find myself a lot more relaxed and that can help a lot, but just a little to much and my technique starts getting sloppy and it's all downhill from there.

From the avatar I'd assume Decembers Silence. For some reason I thought that band was from Milwaukee though. Don't know why.

I suppose I could reply to the topic too. I don't smoke, and I don't play out anywhere. Just some homerecording. But I've written some lyrics drunk. While the idea was decent, the actual lyrics blew big time.

Antaeron, are you in the band there in Madison, WI looking for a second Guitarist? I saw somebody slap up a flyer at the ProgPower IV show.

I missed that show, when was it? I've been in December's Silence since last November, but there was a point a few months back that I 'quit' for a couple days, heh, rough times. I know that the rest of the band didn't waste any time starting to look for a replacement, they may have gotten a poster up.

Nope, we're all from Madison. We've played one show in Milwaukee, last December at the Globe East. Dotac, Rellik, and Anal Blast were there too. Don't try to remember the show if you were there, we sucked :ill::)

I used to go to a lot of local and indie shows. Right now the local scene is pretty weak though so I haven't been to a show in a while (last one was Skywind from MN). But the only good metal shows I've seen in the greater Madison area were Motorhead and Nevermore.
