POISON frontman Bret Michaels recently spoke with Lern of the St. Louis radio station KSHE 95. The full conversation can be streamed below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). On staying apolitical: Bret: "Anyone who's been to my shows knows [it's] never political. It's meant to be nothin' but a good time — a party, truly a celebration." On his recent performances at NFL events: Bret: "I am a gigantic football fan. For me, good music and good football and a good motorcycle ride are great for the soul. I don't want to say this because I don't want to curse myself, but every time I've kicked off seasons with people, they've always had a great first win. I try to bring an energy... The [Minnesota] Vikings did their kickoff and end up crushing it. They had me play at halftime for Arizona... At, like, 2 in the morning, I was at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, and we did our soundcheck at, like, 2 in the morning. I got to play some football on the field. They brought me on at halftime. At halftime, let's just say the [Phoenix] Cardinals weren't winning. I played halftime, and they rolled and ended up tying the game up. They did nothing but score... It was a tie – which is, in football, tough — but the energy brought the crowd up. I'm just throwing it out there – I may good bring some good energy. I don't know about good luck, but good energy." On his daughters: Bret: "My oldest daughter, Raine Elizabeth, as a dad, I'm so proud of her as a person going to the university and working so hard on wanting to do sports broadcasting and journalism. She loves it. I told her, 'Work really hard.' Now, she's a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. You know when people use the word bittersweet? As a dad, it is the most wonderful thing to know your daughter's out there working and trying to succeed, and then when it's a swimsuit modeling thing... As a dad, I'm very protective. I'm very supportive, but really protective. It's a surreal moment for a dad. My youngest daughter Jorja Bleu, she loves and lives for songwriting. We sat down and wrote a song, 'Unbroken', together... it's really about being stronger than your storm, facing adversity and overcoming it." On his longevity: Bret: "Walking around the [NFL] stadiums this weekend, three generations of fans... I'm up there talking to everybody, slapping their hands, talking, having a great time. It's gone beyond music in the life. When we bring that show — when I come out on stage — it is one of those things where I leave 1000 percent on that stage. I'm grateful." Michaels will embark on the "Hometown Heroes" mini-tour — also featuring NIGHT RANGER, FIREHOUSE and Lita Ford — on November 6 in Casper, Wyoming. The trek, which takes place in the week leading up to Veterans Day, will "recognize local active military, servicemen/women, teachers and first responders with [a] portion of the proceeds to benefit juvenile diabetes research and local charities."
