The song Halo, great song. But is this a Christian song? All of the references to God. Just curious as to wether or not they are a religious band. Thanks.

yes. steven wilson was actually a minister in his UK hometown before he became a proffesional musician.

You can be right like me
With God in the hole you're a righteous soul
I got a halo round me, I got a halo round me
I'm not the same as you
Cos I've seen the light and I'm gaining in height now
I got a halo round me, I got a halo round me
I got a halo round my head

Sounds to me like sarcasm which is meant to poke fun at all the holier-than-thou, sanctimonius types.

Halo seems to have a pretty sarcastic feel to it, but the song Lazarus had some religious references that left me confused...anyway their music is great so whateverrrr

as a Christian myself, i feel capable of answering this one.

first off i love this song. its my favorite on the album. to me, as Fidel Castrato said, it is a satire trashing the people who feel they are superior to others because they have "found God" or those who feel they are "safe from sin and safe from condemnation" because they hollow-ly follow a religion without any real basis for it. they use the system as a crutch and an excuse to make up for their faults and insecurities and in such a way they feel better about themselves.

i see this song as pointing the finger at them and saying "who do you think you are?"

it's more of an anti-religious song, dude.
if you read the lyrics "God is in my head" , "God is in the trigger", "God is proof", etc., it's basically pointing out the hypocricy of religious folk justifying all of their thought and actions around God. at least that's the way I interpreted it...

see above^

its not anti-religious, its anti-selfishness. people who do things and then justify their OWN motives by saying they were acting on behalf of God (think George W.) are not Christian... the true way is "i follow God's will, not my own" rather than "my will is God's will" which is what i think this song is attacking.

^ fair enough, I'll agree with that completely :)

btw off topic cause i don't feel like digging up an old PT thread: I'm thinking of introducing a mainstreamer to PT, which would be better: Deadwing or IA?

i'd say IA if they like softer stuff, or Deadwing if they're into a bit heavier stuff. both are good choices to "start" someone with PT. IA was my first PT album and i then went backwards to the beginning, getting Deadwing most recently.

I guess IA it is then. it's a tough choice though, because some people may be turned off by some of the song lengths on deadwing, but it also has more radio-friendly numbers I think.

Wow....

nice castro quote btw silent song haha

And as for introducing a "mainstreamer" to PT... Don't play down to them, or don't think you have to. Just play the songs by them that you like, you never know how they'll react. When I gave a friend of mine a mix of PT, I included synesthesia, dark matter, fadeaway, and such. Those were some of his favorite songs, and this kid likes Disturbed. Good music is good music, just let him/her hear it.
