Drummer Mike Portnoy (ADRENALINE MOB, ex-DREAM THEATER), bassist Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG), guitarist Tony MacAlpine and BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION/ex-Dream Theater keboardist Derek Shrerinian will join forces this fall, embarking on an extended tour of Europe and Asia.

The virtuoso band will play an all-instrumental set consisting of material from each of their solo records and their previous collaborations as well as classic instrumental covers and extended solo spots. Mike Portnoy formed the lineup to perfom at two drum events at the NAMM show last January (footage below). Due to overwhelming response that band has decided to take their show on tour.

"I knew when assembling this lineup that it would be a magical musical experience that would be a blast for us as well as the fans! I can't wait to play again with these tremendous musicians and share the experience with you all at these special shows!" says Portnoy.

Pretty Cool. I wish they would have gotten someone other than Sheehan though. What a douche.

Drummer Mike Portnoy (ADRENALINE MOB, ex-DREAM THEATER), bassist Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG), guitarist TONY MACALPINE and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, ex-Dream Theater) wrapped up their tour of Asia on November 11th in Jakarta, Indonesia. A few days earlier, Portnoy posted the picture below with the following message:

"For some reason beyond our comprehension, the Asian promoter has taken it upon himself to name our band without our consent!!! SOOOO NOT COOL...for the record, this is NOT the name of the band!"

Mac is a great player, but I haven't liked his latest work.
Any reason? I thought his eponymous 2011 album was absolutely monstrous, and musically relevant in a way that a lot of other 80s shredders just haven't been able to capture.

Maybe Portnoy will stop mid-song, throw some of his cymbals on the ground, and rap to how "these stupid mother-fuckers" (meaning the crew) can't get up his drum kit set up right ...

Maybe he will incorporate that into the show every night ......

Class act ..... (not).

The poor guy didn't get to bring his personal drum tech on tour...have some pity, man!

And before someone comes to Portnoy's defense - I get it, he wants things right, and I don't blame him for getting frustrated. However, there are two ways to handle it - proactively work with the local crew and check that things are all set before you start playing, or just get pissed off when things don't go right and throw a fit. I will grant that I don't know the logistics of their schedule, but considering Portnoy seems to think that local crews have been an issue all tour, you would think he would be proactive and take five minutes to check his kit to see if anything needs adjusting.

PORTNOY SHEEHAN MACALPINE SHERINIAN - 'Apocalypse 1470 B.C.' Video From Live In Tokyo Streaming

On September 3rd, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release Live In Tokyo by PORTNOY SHEEHAN MACALPINE SHERINIAN on DVD, Blu-Ray, 2CD and digital audio and video formats. Live In Tokyo was filmed/recorded on November 14th, 2012 at Zepp Tokyo. This 95-minute concert is the first release of material from the PSMS supergroup, and it showcases a wide range of instrumental performances from each of the members’ careers & collaborations (moved up from a later paragraph). Wider fanbases of DREAM THEATER, MR. BIG and BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION will definitely stand up and take notice.
