Possible noob question: Battling volume loss when burning to a cd.

Okay, so, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe this just is the way things work. Basically I'll have an average RMS of between -8 and -6. Sounds nice and loud, but when burning to a disc, I lose a ton of volume. Is this natural? Am I burning wrong? Any insight would be great.

All I'll say is that -8 to -6 is really, really damn loud, some might say too loud. how hard did you compress that thing?! Are you clipping anywhere, because I would imagine that if any clips occur the CD burning software would automatically reduce the output level, to a point where you no longer clip.
