Post black metal?

No need for sucking :D
I love whole song, and from majority Black metal I've heard this mix is pretty damn good. Although I don't know if distorted guitars was intended like this (that probably suite for style) but for me there is lack of definition for them.

I really like it! I can't really find anything that stands out as bad. Can you give details on the mix? What did you use for guitars and drums? What about synths?

Thanks guys! really glad you enjoyed the track, we worked our ass off on the production haha. In terms of mix, it's pretty standard stuff. The drums are natural with some sample augmentation on the kick and snare, the toms are completely unprocessed, not even a gate. Lots of room mic and reverb from an old Roland REX50. The guitars are a blend of 6505 and mesa triple rec through a marshall 1960av, they came out beautifuly so I only did a few eq cuts and a compressor on it, but then came back and did some parallel eq which added a bit more width to the whole thing. Bass was distorted using the mesa and impulses, and for synth all I used was the basic ones that come with cubase, the orchestral stuff was philharmonik from IK multimedia which kicks so much ass.

I think the snares are mistriggering a bit in the blast beat section.

Drums overall could use more reverb, less direct sound - it actually sounds too hi-fi for this style.

Cool mix though.

thanks tom, that was something we talked about for this and how we didn't want a traditional black metal lo-fi sound, a little more presence, punch, definition than what would normally be expected. As for the snare it is possible that there was some mistriggers in there, but the majority of the snare is from the mic'd signal so it might be a gating issue as well. It's funny you mentioned the ambiance because this is the most amount of reverb and delay I've used on a record. I always feel like things get cheesy sounding when you overload it.
