I'm looking at the TC powercore - are there any users out there? The reverb looks cool - especially if it sounds anything like the M seris shit that TC do. Are the compressors any good?

I've never used it, but I've heard great things about it. The UA unit seems to be a little better quality, from reviews and shootouts. I personally would go for the Universal Audio one myself. The thing I like more about the PowerCore though, is that it's available in the compact little external case with a FireWire connection. If I were to get one, which I might in a few weeks for my laptop, I would have to go for the TC compact, since I can't use the PCI card versions (der), and I don't really need it for my G5 as I have plenty of processing power to handle the plugs I typically use on sessions already. I wish UA would make their UAD-1 into something like that. Oh well. I think it's pretty much a toss-up man, they both get great reviews and are neck-and-neck in shootouts.

hey guys,

I got both....

the uad-1 is rad at compression and eq

the Tc seams to excell more at the reverb, although the eq sat is pretty cool too,

1 thing to keep in mind is that the TC pci has encounterd problems sharing the pci buss with the m-audio delta cards,

but out of the two i would be lost without my uad-1 the compressors and EQ KICK SERIOUS ASS :)

hope that helps a bit, yo.

so do the UAD plugs work without the PCI card? I have been saving for a 1176, and I am real close to picking one up, but along comes this plug!

I think I would go with a reall 1176 over a plug anyday man - you can take the 1176 anywhere and use it with anything - having used a few different originals in my time the new ones are'nt all that far off the oldies.

there are pro's and cons tho.... if you buy the plugg you can use say 10 of them in glorious mathched stereo!

Also i have a mate who wanted to use a real fairchild for drums on his record in the studio with colin richardson... they hired one in and set it just right... they then did the same with the ua plugg.... the plugg made it to the record for ease of mixing and recall... i know it's not the 1176 but thats an example of how really great these pluggs are.

...having said that...I would love a real one :)
