Pretty Maids - Future World

You gotta hear the 1990 album "Jump The Gun" (also released as "Lethal Heroes" in some countries I think..), that one is my favourite!!!
Pretty Maids rocked back then!!! Check out the songs "Don't Settle For Less" and "Savage Heart", German melodic metal at its best!!!

Their new stuff is boring and too fast but each album they still throw one older style song on... I had "Carpe Diem" which I thought sucked (and sold it) but there was one song "Wouldn't Miss You" which could easily have come off a late 80s era Pretty Maids release.
But I've heard that when they play live, the bulk of their setlist is still the hard rock songs from the late 80s up to Jump The Gun!

Yeah, Future World is a fucking KILLER album!

I remember back in the day wondering if there was actually 2 vocalists because the singer's voice was so dramatically different between his clean and gravelly voice... sure enough, it was the same guy (as you can tell on Needles In The Dark when he changes).

Big fan here! :)

Just re-visiting this old thread because I've been on a big Pretty Maids kick lately...
Firstly need to correct myself where I said "German" melodic metal, I mean DANISH. But anyway...

So Tonci, have you got Jump The Gun/Lethal Heroes yet?? If not - you need it. By far their best & most consistent album, pretty much every song (except the last track) is unreal. I do think it's way underrated in comparison to Future World which I think is overrated. Great album still but can't touch Jump The Gun.

The balance of the combination of faster metal songs with melodic hard rock songs as the years have gone on has shifted to more fast tracks with a couple of obligatory melodic rock songs since Jump The Gun & Sin Decade. I think they do both styles really well, but absolutely excel at the melodic hard rock. The standouts for me on every album are the melodic tracks. Jump The Gun though is almost entirely melodic hard rock songs.

I saw them live in Nuremberg last November and they were AWESOME. What I wrote back in 2007 about hearing that the setlists are mainly the melodic & anthemic songs could not have been more accurate. I got a KILLER setlist: Lethal Heroes, Savage Heart, Rodeo, Love Games, We Came To Rock, Red Hot & Heavy, Please Don't Leave Me, Walk Away, Another Shot Of Your Love (awesome AOR mid-pacer!), Wake Up To The Real World... And pretty much the only faster, more power-metally songs were the good ones I like: Sin-Decade, Future World, Back To Back & Destination Paradise. The only song in the entire setlist that I could've done without was Virtual Brutality (and found out later they only just added that to the setlist, and replaced the awesome AOR song Hell On High Heels with it, dammit!!).

Totally agree about his voice too, he definitely has a Jeckyl & Hyde thing going on with his vocals! Couldn't be more obvious than on songs like "Partners In Crime" - what a song THAT is!!!
