Yes..all the bands I'm in we produce it ourselves..and most of the engineering also. It depends a lot what we use..everything from ProTools, Nuendo, Cubase..etc for host program..and alot of different software plugins..but also a bunch of hardware synths and FX.

I've payed for it..as I use it professionally I like to have a "clean" version without bugs...

Its a good idea to have licensed software if you plan to distribute your product...or else you can get into deep shit.

Cubase is a good program, a lot of other professionals I know use it and do excellent work with it. I think its worth paying for. Remember, the person using the software matters more then the software itself.
