Pretty much, yeah. Realm is like old school thrash with higher vocals and a bit of rasp at times. PTH is like SikTh meets Coheed and Cambria.

look .. Realm is not a band in "heavy rotation" for me at any given time ... to be honest, I've never heard of PTH and so I gave it a listen. The 1st thing that popped in my head was Realm. Its what it reminds me of. Not saying they're copying anything or whatever, just saying that TO ME, it reminded me stylistically of Realm.

Jeff, thanks so much for a lesson in the obvious ... I'm old enough to remember listening to them when they were putting that cd out. However, I think you fail to point out the obvious things that separate them from just "old school thrash with higher vocals" ... they had a very progressive element to their sound that a band like, say, Sodom (or better ..Vio-Lence) never did which is also something that brought them to mind upon hearing PTH

and if anyone doesn't at least respect THIS response for what it is .. me stating I had an opinion about something ... well, you can go fuck yourselves

They like Sikth. They've said so in interviews. The guitarist has even worn a Sikth shirt in one of their music videos...... but the American version of Sikth? Really? Give me a break. I definitely hear the Sikth influence in some of the guitar riffs, but at the same time I hear just as much Dream Theater and Paul Gilbert in PTH's music. Sikth was way more groove oriented and had completely different vocals... PTH is more thrashy, faster paced... more shred, more melodic singing, more neoclassical leads....

Screaming fucking sucked, he should stick to clean vocals. They weren't very straight, but sounded pretty cool anyway. All in all, cool band but probably nothing I'll be listening to ever again.

They have talent but eventually all the arpeggios/sweeps/lead bits and tapping get old on me. Heard these guys a year or two ago, can't remember.
