Protest the Hero Scurrilous New album free stream

Such a good album. This one should appeal to the members of this forum more than ever, the growls are now almost completely gone and its just as catchy as Fortress was.

i still cannot believe "growling" is an issue with people. i could see like 10 years ago it being hard to stomach in moderation, but now it's generally everywhere and i think it's kind of sad PTH are abandoning it. Contrast is always a good thing in music.

It seems a familiar story that bands/singers abandon growling. I sometimes wonder if it not only a style change but a change for health reasons. My perception is that constantly doing this vocal style can cause throat problems.

But in the case of PTH I thought the bassist handled most of the growls. Anyways, yes I'm sad to see them go as well.

People have different preferences in vocals. It's pretty much as simple as that.

I listened to the whole stream yesterday and I was pretty pleased with what I heard. I'll definitely be snagging a copy on Tuesday.

Does the signer still yowl in an obnoxiously high resgister? I've always liked their music but the singer...ugh. I really hate that singing style. -really- hate it. The growls don't even bother me.

*edit*

yep. They need to fire that fucker. Sounds like he belongs in a pop-punk band.

Yup. I don't think its a coincidence that the best song on the album is the only one with growls.

I don't get it either. Metal is about balls, not about poofy fluffiness. If you don't like metal, that's fine, but it kind of bugs me when people jock AOR and pretend that it's metal.*

*Context please before flaming me. I love AOR too.

I think that's debatable. There are singers that have been screaming for decades now and still do it with relative ease. If they are hiding some sort of health issue, I'd be a bit surprised.

Then there are singers like Corey Taylor and the guy from Avenged Sevenfold who did have throat problems with screaming. But there are also bands who have developed throat problems from normal melodic singing such as the singer of The Darkness and the singer of Disturbed. I think the throat problems have more to do with the constant touring and pushing the voice coupled with specific individual health issues than it has to do with the vocal style in it of itself.

Yeah it also probably has to do with how well you have been trained and how much you practice or warm up.

Sure, also guys not taking care of their voices by smoking and drinking on the road. Then again, there are guys who do all that shit and still sing or scream their hearts out and nothing bad happens. People are like snowflakes.

I'm inclined to agree. I think this guy's clean vocals are more annoying / displeasing than the average singer's growls.

Edit: Other than that, the album isn't too bad.
