According to The Pulse Of Radio, The pub in Birmingham, England where BLACK SABBATH began its long, historic career has been sold to developers and may be demolished. The woman who runs the pub, called the Crown, has been ordered to get out by next week. The woman, Colleen Andrews, told the Birmingham Mail, "This pub is the city's equivalent of the Cavern in Liverpool. It could have become a great venue again and a wonderful museum."BLACK SABBATH played at the Crown in their earliest days as a band, when they were still a blues-rock outfit called EARTH. Other acts that played there included THE WHO, THE DOORS, THIN LIZZY, and members of LED ZEPPELIN and HUMBLE PIE.SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi remarked that the Crown was "hugely important" in the history of SABBATH, adding, "We had some great times there, and made many good friends. The Crown may have seen better days but I would have thought it was important for the city to preserve the heritage that is all too quickly disappearing from our streets."Original BLACK SABBATH manager Jim Simpson said, "The Crown was the birthplace of the band, where Ozzy Osbourne faced a crowd for the first time."Plans to turn the venue into a permanent museum while still operating as a cafe, pub and club had been discussed for some time. But the owners, Admiral Taverns, have now sold the premises to a Japanese firm, whose plans are unknown.
